Comedy 'The White Lotus' (HBO)

Oh hell yes. Theo, Patrick and Jake together would be so much fun to watch. Make it happen. “Let’s fun!”

Credit where it's due to the show, out of everything that happened in this finale, they got me with
Chelsea getting shot.
I didn't expect that.

I actually expected it to happen (the person who died). Didn’t expect the other one after.

For me this is one of the few shows out here that just kept getting better after each season with this one being my favorite so far. That finale was pretty insane and I definitely didn't see those deaths coming.

This show really does have some great build up with a satisfying payoff in the end.

Honestly
Scott Glenn has no one to blame but himself for how that **** went down.

You can tell the old lady that Rick’s your kid, but you can’t bother to give Rick any sort of explanation? Come on, man…

I can appreciate the full circle nature of Belinda now doing to her hook-up exactly what Coolidge did to her at the end of S1, though. Except she didn’t even give up any money, so she might be worse.

Also placing my bet rn:
Next season’s returning guest will be one of the girl’s trio trying to shed their trauma of seeing someone gunned down in front of them.

That was one hell of a finale. I was on the edge the entire time. I was going through it with the Ratliffs
At first I'm like....the youngest is going to alone.
Oh no...he's the one to die for his fathers sins
Oh FORK! thank you southern charm jesus he's alive!
Oh...they're going to be poor now.

Belinda coming FULLLL circle and pulling a Tanya
Connecting with this man. Talking about starting up a business with him....getting that $$$$...and leaving him out in the dust. Just like what was done to her.

The only question I have for this finale
Where the hell were Gary/Chloe and the Ratliffs during this shoot out? We do not see them react at all. They're so disconnected from it that it seems strange.

My girl Chelsea!!!!!!!!
You deserved better.

Some thoughts about the finale...

I knew that there'd be multiple deaths but I wasn't sure how it would play out. I was gutted when Chelsea died. By far the most innocent character to get killed on this show.

I was surprised that none of the Ratliffs died. They teased Tim killing himself so much that I figured he'd live but when Lochlan came back to life I rolled my eyes. Not that I wanted him to die but Tim needed some consequences for his actions apart from the s***storm awaiting them when they get home.

Overall I liked this season a lot, pretty much on par with season 2 but it probably could have been trimmed down to 6 episodes.

I would have at least had Victoria, Saxon and Piper involved in some way since they were presumably headed towards the main area of the resort but at the same time if they had everyone involved it might have been too much. There was a lot happening. As it is, the Laurie/Jaclyn/Kate group felt shoehorned into that situation just to give them something to do after Laurie's monologue pretty much wrapped up that storyline.

Were any of them really traumatized? They seemed fine on the boat ride back. Honestly it all felt a little weird that people not too connected to the Rick/Chelsea storyline (and even some that were) didn’t appear too bothered by anything that happened.

My god, I think this was the saddest season finale of this show.

I was devasted when Chelsea died. But I liked, in a bittersweet way, that while she was trying so hard to save Rick, she ended up saving Saxon. He left a different person, reading about spirituality and looking for meaningful connections.

And oh my god that Laurie monologue. It was so great and closed that arc beautifully.

Also loved the full circle arc of Belinda.

Oh my, what else can I say? Can't wait for the next season, and please dont take more than a year.

By the way, I remember the actors saying that would be a reason why behind the incest. Was there any "meaningful message" behind that arc that I missed?

Yeah if there was, I missed it. Unless it’s just because Lochlan is so clingy with his siblings that it crosses over into incest territory?

I feel like that was it? He's lost with no identity of his own and wants to please everyone.

I lowkey thought he'd
Participate in having sex with whatshername as Greg watches on

I agree with your spoiler. I was thinking it as I watched. That didn't have to happen.

Combing through the Four Seasons site to try to gauge which location we might be in for with S4.

IMO, I think Cairo has the sauce.

You know, before I started the episode, I thought about this season overall and whether it was a bit of a letdown after the first two seasons. After finishing the episode, it's clear that it's up there with the others, another brilliant installment of the best show on television. It just needed to percolate a little bit and cross that finish line. This was the best finale they've done so far, a bittersweet conclusion that in classic The White Lotus fashion leaves you wanting more. This might've been the most moving episode of the show, so many moments got to me. Laurie's monologue is a big one, a really wonderful way to finish the friend group's tumultuous storyline. Love, love, love this show.

Mike White commented on the Inside episode that Victoria seems like someone who would "find a solution" instead of living in poverty, so I wouldn't be surprised if we see her again with another rich man. I hope so!

Now, Mike White better be sending fruit baskets and handwritten apology notes to Cristobal Tapia De Veer by the dozen. His music is a crucial part of the show's DNA, it has elevated every single episode, and I can't imagine the show without it.

Oh, and I did miss Tanya. This season wasn't as funny as the first two, and that altered balance of comedy and drama seems to be affected by the lack of Jennifer Coolidge. Parker Posey did most of the heavy lifting here, but to me she was more Connie Britton in season 1 funny than what Coolidge brought to the table.

My theory is that this goes for six seasons: a White Lotus for each continent (except Antarctica for obvious reasons). Cairo would cover Africa, then we just have South America and Australia. The thing is, the only Four Seasons in Australia is in Sydney which goes against the exotic locale vibe so I don't know how that would work.

Speaking of returning characters…

Sam Rockwell, perhaps?

That monologue of his certainly generated a good amount of attention. Or is that character maybe a little too wild to be given too much spotlight?

I'd love that!
