Comedy 'The White Lotus' (HBO)

There's not enough booze and therapy in the world that's going to help Lochlan after that night. The moment Sam Rockwell showed up again, I was bracing for another monologue.

I loved Leslie Bibb becoming unsettled by the Coon/Monaghan beef intensifying.

A genuine ****-stirrer would’ve been completely gagged.

Holy ****, I didn’t know the youngest kid was the son of Alessandro Nivola and Emily Mortimer.
Piggybacking off this by just now realizing that this means his real mom and his TV mom worked together in Scream 3.

Ugh Lochlan is so gross. At this point, I feel like Saxon and his dad are going to play Russian Roulette in the finale until they both lose.

Duke, you’ve had bigger scandals than a fantasy sequence on a fictional TV series. Settle down. :o
Scandals are fleeting. Memes are eternal. And you can bet that a GIF of Jason Isaacs holding a gun to his head in a Duke shirt is gonna be floating around the internet whenever one of their teams lose. THAT'S what they're really afraid of. :o

Anyone else thinking that Scott Glenn's character might not have had Walton Goggins's dad killed, because he's actually his real dad?

Anyway, much like with episodes 4 and 5, I felt like episodes 6 and 7 probably could have been merged together. I've been enjoying this season a lot but it could be a little tighter.

I thought the same, something about Scott Glenn's reaction to Rick's mother's name. I wonder how Rick will react if that's the case.

Gaitok is terrible at his job, and he's trying to woo the wrong woman. Mook (not unlike Portia on season 2) has this very specific, conservative attraction to toxic masculinity. Mook has some good points, but this clearly isn't the man for her. Interesting to see how their story concludes next week. I'm guessing he'll get himself killed trying to impress her instead of doing the healthy thing and walking away from both her and the job he's unqualified for.

I could see that happening. My big prediction is that unlike the previous seasons, I'm thinking there'll be more than one death in the finale.

Yeah I was expecting Scott Glenn to have his Darth Vader moment in the last episode but maybe it will happen in episode 8. Or maybe not.

All in all though, I’m kinda feeling like this season is (intentionally or unintentionally) about a bunch of people who suck at their professions/passions/lives.

Rick and Frank are clearly a couple of crooks who somehow didn’t figure out that pulling a con actually takes a little prep work. Like, ya know, actually researching the person you’re trying to con and being able to name some of her movies and such. Not that it matters though, since her bodyguards suck at their jobs and Sritala and Jim apparently just trust that a guy in a Lowe’s hat is some big time Hollywood director that they’ve never heard of.

Then of course there is Gaitok, who sucks at his job and is infatuated with a woman who will probably only really be interested in him if he shoots some people.

Then you have the Ratliffs. Saxon is the cocky d-bag who strikes out with every girl he hits on. He did (maybe?) sleep with Chloe before the infamous bro-job scene but I’m not sure. Tim is not only a bad finance guy who is headed for prison but he’s also a bad father and husband who feels like killing his family is a better solution than letting them deal with the repercussions of his own stupidity. Piper thinks she’s on a path to enlightenment but she’s really just trying to get away from her family. Victoria is so useless she doesn’t even know what country she’s in (on the other hand though, that probably qualifies her to be Director of National Intelligence!). And Lochlan… yeah don’t even get me started on that little creep.

The three friends are all varying degrees of fake and ****ty people, all Chelsea has going on is the stupid notion that a guy twice her age who treats her like crap and almost got her killed is her soulmate, Fabian wants to be a singer but who ****ing cares other than him, and the Russians were only successful in their smash and grab robbery because they are surrounded by idiots. Oh yeah, and Greg/Gary swindled Tanya out of a billion dollars, killed her and got away with it, yet he buys a mansion right next to a chain hotel where lo and behold someone from one of that hotel’s other locations recognizes him. Who would have thought that could happen?

Anyway, I’m enjoying this season nonetheless but I’m honestly not sure if it’s had really good writing or some of the laziest writing I’ve ever seen in a TV show. Some of the stuff I listed above really works but I’m not sure if it works for the reasons Mike White intended. But the Greg/Gary stuff is especially stupid when you really think about it. Still, I’m looking forward to the finale.

Now I'm wondering if the shooter is Gaitok who now an incel because of his crappy girlfriend, lol. :p

Maybe the shooter is Tim but he’s so drugged out of his mind that he keeps missing while trying to shoot himself.

Given Mike White’s experience with/affection for Survivor, I almost feel like the best way for him to wrap up this series is with, like, a White Lotus: All Stars season. Connie Britton, Steve Zahn, the Italian girls from S2, Walton Goggins (if he survives), and Surprise! You thought she was dead but she was really in witness protection: Jennifer Coolidge.

Omg…
