Horror 'The Witch': A new horror movie from A42

I saw a stuffed black ram at Walmart and named it Black Phillip... When I went the next day, he was gone. :(

:csad:

Did you check the dairy section, perhaps he thought he'd try his luck over by the butter? :oldrazz:

So is Black Phillip supposed to be a vessel for Satan or something?

In short yes - a lot of 'pagan' societies had gods with goat-like features, the most famous being the Greek god Pan. When early Christians were trying to get rid of any association with the old 'pagan' gods, Pan, who represented sexuality, lust and fertility and was portrayed as having the lower body and horns of a goat, became equated with Satan. There's a lot more, such as Baphomet and the Goat of Mendes, but that's the gist of it. Goats = Satan.

Hares, one of which pops up a lot, are also associated with Celtic and Anglo-Saxon 'paganism' and often represented female deities - or witches.

Blu-ray comes out Monday here. Missed it on the big screen so looking forward to checking it out.

Maybe someone took him in, so he could let them live deliciously. :D

You're clearly not having enough sinful thoughts for him to think he could work on you - try looking at this for a while and he might turn up again :woot:

In news that really shouldn't have surprised me, Black Phillip has a twitter account. The sticky post is my favourite but it has (hand drawn) nudity so NSFW. Ralph Ineson has had a couple of good-natured fun with tweets with the account, mainly regarding goat curry :oldrazz:

My first initial reaction after watching this yesterday was "Well that was pretty good, has flaws", but after more thought the film has certainly stuck with me.

Fantastic movie, one of the best horror made in the recent years. The ending is one of my favorite I've ever seen and I really hope Anya Taylor-Joy will have a long and awesome career

Finally watched this. I expected a bit more of the usual horror hijinks, but the creepy, unsettling factor more than made up for it. And dat score...

I love this movie so much.

I cannot wait for Eggers to take on Nosferatu.

Yeah, it's a very good horror film. It didn't creep the hell out of me quite as much as I was hoping it would, but I still really liked it.
