he X-Files creator Chris Carter has been in talks with Fox about rebooting The X-Files...

Chris Carter has had conversations with the heads of 20th Century Fox about a possible reboot of The X-Files, he confirmed to Vulture this week. What the tenor of those conversations was, Carter didn't elaborate, but that doesn't stop us from pondering the matter.

After batting away talk of the lawsuits both he and David Duchovny brought against Fox, The X-Files creator spoke of how he and Fox TV CEO Dana Walden go way back, confirming "she and I have talked a lot about this".

"Is that a way of saying a reboot is happening?" asked Vulture, "That's just a way of saying there certainly have been conversations", Carter replied. "So why hasn't it happened?" Vulture pressed him. "I would assume nothing" were Carter's final words on the matter.

Mulder and Scully fans are really waiting for news of the long-mooted third X-Files movie, which has reportedly been sketched out for some time. If Gillian Anderson is right, that won't happen until at least 2016, if at all. When we chatted to Frank Spotnitz eighteen months ago, he indicated that a TV reboot was likely, and confirmed that there wasn't yet a script in place for the planned third movie. More news as it arrives.

I'm excited.

I'd watch a big budget all out alien invasion 3rd film, but I probably wouldn't watch a rebooted series.

Id watch it no doubt. I dont think it would be a all out reboot but perhaps a new series of some sort. I would love to see Mulder and Scully again.

If its a full blown reboot I'd be very disappointed. If they take a cue from 24 and bring it back as a 12 episode series I'm all for it though.

Yeah I think this is spearheaded by 24s return and it only needs to be a pseudo reboot/relaunch. X files still has two plot points dangling that need addressing. 1. William the son of Scully (and mulder?) he must be like 15 now. 2. The invasion/colonizations date.

btw they need to bring the lone gunmen back ha!

So we got 24 & Boy Meets World back with Heroes in the making & now in the works X-Files & Full House all righty then. Whats next Saved By The Bell & Family Matters ?

I'd watch it but I'd prefer a continuation over a reboot.

Bring back Scully dammit.

i just want them to release the show on bluray already.

hope this pans out even if it is for a limited series run similar to 24

at least hopefully we can get some closure

Like the 24 limited series I hope they could lure former writers back, they've got quite the list of alumni still active.

Carter's Amazon pilot isn't going forward and nothing has happened with his script at AMC. Anderson seems game for TV after Crisis, The Fall and Hannibal. She started the #XFiles2015 hashtag on the Nerdist Podcast this week to gauge fan interest.

Best I could hope for. I really wanted it back on tv instead of another movie. Wonder if they could get Vince Gilligan to write an episode.

Hopefully they bring back Robert Patrick, he was great as John Doggett.

NONONO... keep Reyes and Doggett OUT of this and keep it to just Mulder and Scully... Reyes and Doggett only remind me of the bad period of XFiles... and besides, if Scorpion has a lengthy run, it should keep Robert Patrick occupied with THAT and out of the XFiles...

I wouldn't mind bringing them back if it's done similarly to how the comic used them. Really, if this turns out as well as the X-Files Season 10 comic I would be happy.

i wouldn't mind small roles/limited appearances for Dogget & Reyes, but the main focus should be Scully & Mulder

I'd be more curious to see if all the old writers would return, like the 24 writers did with Live Another Day. Could you imagine a post-BrBa Vince Gilligan writing more X-Files?

I'd like to see Mulder and Scully training rookies, it would be interesting to see one of them being a skeptic and the other possibly being a Mulder fanboy.

This is great news. If any show deserves another run its the xfiles.

Hope Chris Carter, Frank Spotnitz and Vince Gilligan are all involved.

Not going to lie, this would be great had X-Files: I Want To Believe not been a buzzkill. Like, total buzzkill.
