Sci-Fi The X-Files - 6 Part Event Series

At this point, the mythology is just retcon upone retcon upon retcon upon retcon...

I hope the Smoking Man is lying because if he's not then I'm pretty pissed.

Even if it turns out he wasn't lying by the end of this season, he will be revealed to have been lying when Anderson and Duchovny eventually relent and decide to do more eps in, like, ten years.

That was massively disappointing. But like almost everyone says, the mythology isn't what we're here for. You would think after a decade's worth of time between the series end and revival they would have had some idea where to take it instead of retcon on top of retcon and then obvious twists that aren't really revealing.

Just watched. Yep, still happy to ignore the existence of the mythology eps.

I don't know if either no one else involved in this series has told Carter that keeping the mythology going, with new tweaks every now and then, just doesn't f***ing work or if they have and he just says "F*** 'em" and does it anyway, but... good lord.

I honestly think it's the latter because every new season feels like he's doubling down, lol.

If CSM doesn't turn out to be lying, then this is a TERRIBLE way to go (and unnecessary as well). Well it's still a terrible way to go regardless, but in that case it'd be even worse.

I know that this show has turned into retcon upon retcon upon retcon, but this is still pushing it.

Now I am kind of glad this is Gillian Anderson's last run on the series (unless she changes her mind again). The more I think about that premiere the more I realize how awful the mythology has become.

I missed the first 20 minutes because I forgot it was on so early, but this episode felt a bit Black Mirror-ish.

why again was the last season only 6 episodes? I know they can't film 22 episode seasons or even 13 episodes. But no less than 8 I would say is needed to tell a really good season arc.

****ing brilliant episode last night.

I think this episode is a good example of how the show can still be good as long as Chris Carter is not involved. Duchovny and Anderson seemed off in the first episode both in terms of dialogue and acting but this actually seemed pretty natural. I don’t know if I would call it brilliant but I would put in on par with some of the better episodes from season 7 or season 6 which is better than what we got last season.

Just watch this ep, and yep, SO much better than the premiere. Next week is another Carter ep. Can't we just skip that and get straight to the next (Darin Morgan) one?

Yeah, I thought this was a good one. Carter's capable, he just needs to leave the mythology behind.

Yeah that was much better than I expected. Can't wait for this week's, though.

Well that episode was brilliant as expected.

maybe late to the party, but i thought some hired group were after them, now they are back doing stand alone episodes? i'm quite confused, no mention of smoking man... what is actually happening, in a nut shell?

I feel like I had the opposite reaction to everyone else. I didn't care for this episode at all.
