They should make a live-action "Last Unicorn" movie.

To cash in on the successes of recent fantasy flicks like "LOTR", "Harry Potter", "Narnia", "Spiderwick Chronicles", "Beowulf", "Golden Compass, "Hellboy" and "Pan's Labyrinth"; i was thinking it's about time they outta do a live-action adaptation of Peter S. Beagle's famous 1968 fantasy novel to the big screen as was done before in the cult 1982 animated flick with Jeff Bridges.

I think Luc Besson ( Director of "Leon The Professional", "The Fifth Element" and "La Femme Nikita") or Jean Pierre Jenuet ("City of Lost Children") or perhaps Alfonso Cauron ("Harry Potter and The Prisoner of Azkaban") should direct this ideal film with Guillermo Del Toro and Peter S. Beagle as executive producers. I could see MGM, Lion's Gate and Dino De Laurentiis Corporation as the studios, and here's my ideal cast:

Schmendrick The Magician: James Remar (Ajax from "The Warriors") or Bill Paxton.
Ruhk: Ron Perlman.
King Haggard: Ian Mckellen, Patrick Stewart, Tobin Bell ("Saw Series"), Alan Rickman, or Robert Englund.
Amalthea/Unicorn's Voice: Some unknown platinum blonde cutie.
Voice of The Butterfly: Issac Hayes, Sid Haig ("Devil's Rejects"), or Doug Jones.
Prince Lir: Matthew Modine ("Full Metal Jacket") or Cary Elwes.
Molly Grue: Glen Close.

WETA can do the CGI effects with Tom Savini ("Friday the 13th", " the original Dawn of the Dead", "Day of the Dead", "Creepshow") as make-up artist and animatronics maker especially on the Haggard make-up and The Red Bull animatronics.

This film was already planned but from what I can remember, the author or his family(don't know if he's still alive)didn't like the ideas that were being thrown around for it.

At least that's from what I can remember hearing about it.

Mentioning Pan's Labyrinth and The Golden Compass in the same sentence should earn you the death penalty.

I'm not mentioning them in the same sentence, i'm mentioning them because of the box-office successes they had.
