Things looking up for the PS3

Graphics are overated. Sure systems should have great graphics but that isnt and shouldnt be the selling point. The PS2 was the weakest of the 3 current (or last) gen systems and I felt it was the best and it definetly had the biggest success. I'm hoping that the PS3 can do just as well, if not better, but its definetly not going to be its superior graphics that will get it to where it needs to be

I was planning on getting a PS3 anyway; the question was when. This October was the earliest I would. I actually really excited about the PS3 now. Sony has been getting alot of bashing and negativity thrown their way but finally alot of positives have been creeping up in the past couple of weeks. Just think by this time next year, the PS3 will have (assuming no delays of course)

1. PS3 Home - Finally Sony has an answer to what its been lacking online and it just might be able to compete with the competition. It looks really good and hopefully it will work out just as well. Best thing about it is its free and hopefully it stays that way

2. Exclusives titles - Heavenly Sword, Little Big Planet, Metal Gear Solid 4, Lair, Resistance: FOM, Motorstorm, Warhawk, Devil May Cry 4, Killzone to name a few. Plus FFXXIII (and vs XIII) is expected to drop in 2008

3. A List titles- GTA4, Assasins Creed, Unreal Tournament 3, Oblivion, Burnout 5, Virtua Fighter 4 and more

4. 60 Gig Harddrive- People thought 60gb was too much and couldnt see that getting filled up but Sony definetly looks to want to take full advantage of it. From improving load times, downloadable content, PS1 and PS2 titles (which hopefully will be playable on the PS3 and not just PSP soon), its being put to good use. It wont be long till people will say 60gb isnt enough

5. Blu-Ray - Yeah most people probably dont care if it has it, but HD is the future for media and its nice that the option to be able to play HD movies is available. I know once one has viewed a program in HD, its hard to go back and watch the same in SD. From what Ive read, the PS3 is great as an BR player and it is the cheapest one on the market.

6. SIXAXIS Motion Sensing - I bet as time goes on, developers will find more creative ways of implenting its key feature into games. Though not a necesity, it should be interesting to see how it will be handled in the future

7. Rumble Support (possibly) - With Sony patching things up with Immersion, I think its a pretty safe bet that the PS3 will be updated with rumble support in the SIXAXIS. Its a matter of when and Christmastime would be a great time for them to have it ready by.

This is what I have to look forward to by next year and I think I will be satisified with it. Theres not much to justify me purchasing a PS3 now and I can go out and get one right now if I wanted to, but I think come this time next year, it will be worth the $600 or so bucks I will spend on it. I think things are finally looking up for it

All the hoopla over Sony at the GDC still hasn't convinced me to slap down $600 bucks for a PS3. Sony's still missing the point, they're missing what put them on top of the console wars in the first place, games. Their machine still costs too much without offering enough that I can't get for $200 less with an X-Box.

PS3 Home - I don't really understand what makes this service so cool, hardcore gamers want to play games, not decorate a virtual apartment and PS3 has been positioned towards hardcore gamers. Just give PS3 owners a good online service, I can't imagine their Second Life clone being too fun in the long term.

Exclusive Titles - This is where most of Sony's focus should be, it's the reason why PS1 and PS2 were so successful, not more power, more titles that people want to play.

A List Titles - Problem with those is I can pick up an X-Box 360 and three of those titles for less than the PS3.

60 Gig Harddrive - I don't really see this as a plus or minus, I've used maybe 1 gig of my X-Box 360 Harddrive and still have only filled half of my 20 gig iPod, don't understand how people can use so much memory. If you need that much space I guess it's useful, but I've never had a problem with memory for Video Game systems.

Blu-Ray - I still think it was a huge mistake because it's one of the big reasons for the higher price point and I really don't see either Blu-Ray or HD-DVD catching on with the mainstream public. Downloads will be the next DVD, I see Blu-Ray and HD-DVD going the way of Laserdisc and Betamax.

SIXAXIS Motion Sensing - If they can really utilize this it could help, but Nintendo's stolen all the press regarding motion sensing. That could change, but Sony needs to really use this new tool, but right now it seems more like a gimmick than a real weapon in Sony's arsenal.

Rumble Support (possibly) - Sony's on record more than once saying they will not bring rumble support into the PS3 controller, they view it as a last gen gimmick that has run it's course.

$100 dollars less. The 60gb PS3 is comparable to the Xbox 360 premium

Thats why I said, I hope it works out well bc it is unproven. The service isnt jus the "Second Life" like aspect. There will be menus and such for those who dont want to bother with the social aspect of it.

Exclusive Titles - This is where most of Sony's focus should be, it's the reason why PS1 and PS2 were so successful, not more power, more titles that people want to play.
I definetly agree. Sony needs to work on keeping the ones they got and securing some others. I think they have a good list now, but they need more

A List Titles - Problem with those is I can pick up an X-Box 360 and three of those titles for less than the PS3.
I put this here specifically as the non-exclusive titles. I think these games will be great and Im looking forward to playing them. I dont care that they are on the 360 as well.

60 Gig Harddrive - I don't really see this as a plus or minus, I've used maybe 1 gig of my X-Box 360 Harddrive and still have only filled half of my 20 gig iPod, don't understand how people can use so much memory. I dont have a 360 so I cant comment on its usage but I have a 30gb iPod and only have about 3-4gb left and thats without video. If I included that, I wouldnt fit everything. I need to upgrade to the 80gb model. Sony is releasing full PS2 titles in HD (for example Tekken DA). Thats no small download and they have plans for other media. The hard drive will fill up pretty quickly for those who are into downloading. Plus like I said, some gams will be able to take advantage of the hard drive to decrease loading times and having alot of space is a plus for that

This isnt a necesity but it is a plus for those upgrading to HD and I think most that will buy a PS3 will either have an HDTV or plan on getting on in the future.

SIXAXIS Motion Sensing - If they can really utilize this it could help, but Nintendo's stolen all the press regarding motion sensing. That could change, but Sony needs to really use this new tool, but right now it seems more like a gimmick than a real weapon in Sony's arsenal.
Depends on how its utilized and right now I dont think developers really know what to do with it, but I think with time we will see them take advantage of it, OR it could be a flop. Guess we'll have to wait and see.

Rumble Support (possibly) - Sony's on record more than once saying they will not bring rumble support into the PS3 controller, they view it as a last gen gimmick that has run it's course.
Haha, Sony has said alot of stuff they've had to take back. Do you really think they paid out Immersion and will continue to pay they out (for what the next 5 years?), just to sit on the technology? They now legally can use it and I think anyone that honestly thinks they wont simply bc they made some comment in the past (which people called out as BS) are fooling themselves. The PS3 will have rumble but its a question of when and how soon they can work out the kinks and release it. Hopefully by Christmas time

i want to buy a ps3 but the price tag is just too freakin ridiculous man. 400 to 450 would've been a good selling point.

60G PS3 = $599
XBOX360 Premium = $399

$599 - $399 = $200

there's a new Black X Box 360 coming out with more bells and whistles that are comparable to the PS3's:

Just yesterday our inside source gave us a tip that Microsoft Australia has told a store named Myer to prepare the store for a Black 360 with a 120GB hard drive in April. Well day 2 of product knowledge today (Brisbane, Australia) featured Microsoft themselves and it's now 100% official that the Black 360, (with black controller), 120gb hard drive and HDMI is due out in Australia for $749 AU in April. They will try to push this forward to late March to deter buyers from the March 23 PS3 launch. Hopefully we see this good news sometime in Europe and USA. Should you take it as a grain of salt or not, whats your thoughts?

Translates to almost $600 in US currency. $581-ish.

so lets try this again:

60G PS3 = $599
XBOX360 Premium Black= $581-ish

599-581 = chump change

How are they going to take such a big hit with every system they sell?
