This is a touchy subject...

I can't agree with this thread. Maybe a few years ago I would have, but now I don't.
To which I will state I like White Chicks, but not just White Chicks. I like I Am Legend. I like Blade, The Art of War, In the Pursuit of Happyness, Crash, Ghost Dog, I Think I Love My Wife, Gothika(some-what), I Robot (lol Why does Will Smith always start in these films with grammatical errors) MIB, Rush Hour, Cradle to the Grave, Dream Girls, The Wiz, Romeo Must Die, and other movies with black protagonist or co-black protagonist. I admit, I'm not a big fan of some of these typical black films that always pop up, like Norbit, First Sunday, ATL, Soul Plane and the such, but that doesn't mean all of them are bad just because our people generally distribute only a few specific categories of movies. Just like not so typical ones like Catwoman aren't always good. Though, I admit, black film makers should expand their horizon. A Weseley Snipes type film is rare to come by for us, and we hardly have ANY films like Sweeney Todd, Edward Scissor Hands, or The Prestige. We're also lacking in the Harry Potter, Bridge to Tarabithia, and Lord of the Rings department. But what can you do? When the majority of the black audience wants stereotypical dark humor, guns, ****s, sports, and rap the film makers have to comply to that to make money , I guess.
You have missed the ENTIRE point of my argument. Hollywood keeps falling back on the excuse that black audiences want this crap, & black moviegoers justify their support of it w/the excuse that nothing else is offered. That's bullcrap. GIve us something different & we WILL support it. I refuse to believe that the majority of us want it. No. That is simply not true. But as long as that belief is in place, nothing will change.

Sad as it may seem... I know many black people who love all the Friday movie, First Sunday, Norbit, and so on. And continuously go to see or by the bootleg versions of said movies. So, I wouldn't be surprised if the majority of black people DO want this crap, even if people like you and I want diversity.

yeah that is pathetic. So mindless.

Also, The Wayan brothers are a crime to celluloid. White Chicks, Little Man...the trailers say it all. I wonder if in their darkest moments they feel the blistering shame that should accompany the making of those films.

They did make some great movies, though, like the first two Scary Movies and ...Drinking your Juice in the Hood. I hate to find out just what the f**k happened to them that made them suck.

Did anyone even see Talk to Me? Seriously, did they?

Nope. Wanted to see it, too. :csad:

Well, it's coming out on Cinemax soon, so there's that. :yay:

Well, at least some number of them are bootlegging them and not giving the f**kers money for those movies.

People keep talking about these movies being held up by black audiences, but it seems to me crappy movies are held up by people who have crappy taste in movies. Where I live the minority population is in the mid-to-low nothings, and people are watching these movies. Hollywood saw a formula, and when Hollywood has a formula they tend to stick with it.
The thing is, one big blockbuster can start a trend that lasts for years, good or bad. So you got to hope for the perfect storm of the right cast and director and writers, and get one truly high quality blockbuster level hit. Seeing something make lots of money is the only way Hollywood ever changes their minds.
Barring that, people of every color and creed with crappy taste will see crappy movies, and those movies will make enough money to reinforce the formula's bankability.

I Think I Love My Wife is a very good mostly black cast movie that isn't stereotypically black at all. Chris Rock even talks about all this stuff in his commentary, about how all black casts always seem to do the same stuff.

Yes. I loved that movie. One of the funniest I've seen. Did Rock actually say that? Hm? Looks like I should give him more credit in the future.

That proves nothing. I also know a great many who loved "WHy Did I Get Married?".
