Just read about this story out of Ogden, Utah that's now making the rounds. My gosh, to believe THIS is actually news.

Unlike the earnest little boys in the 1930s and beyond who wore baseball caps and saved their allowances while waiting breathlessly for the latest adventures of Batman, Captain America and Wonder Woman, comic book buyers now tend to be older collectors.

As baby boomers age, comic book readers look for more grown-up fare from their superheroes.

The ABC affiliate in Ogden, Utah, reported April 20 that a 10-year-old boy accidentally got a copy of "The Spectre" No. 9 at a local dollar store. The comic book showed a naked woman.

The comic book came in a grab bag labeled "Superhero Comic Book Spectacular" that assured buyers the comic books were "family friendly."

“I seen the naked lady and I got mad.”

LMAO! I think that kid might be gay.

If that happened when I was 10, the report would have been titled "It Was The Best Day Ever!!"

DC really should reprint all of Ostander's Spectre run.

If that happened when I was 10, I probably would've been confused. If it had happened when I was like 13 or 14, then it would've been the best day ever.

Late bloomer. :csad:

When I was around 13 or 14, my mom and grandma bought me a comic collection from a comic shop for 1,000. Of course, when I got home, I started going through all the boxes of comics, and came across a gay adult comic. I thought, "What the heck??!!??"

I just thought, the funny thing is that when I turned 18, I sold my first comic collection to buy a car, and that comic would have been stuffed in there somewhere.

I got a big box of comics from my uncle when I was little, one of which was a weird black-and-white comic about a werewolf and a vampire doin' it. I was like 9, so I didn't really know what to do with it, except for the fact that I knew that I should never, ever let my parents see it. I lost it at some point over the years.

^ And to never have any alone time with said uncle...

Haha, he was in the Marines, so he tended to buy comics from whichever random cities he found himself in. He's the main reason I'd ever even heard of Marvel UK. Presumably, he got that comic from some other country that's not as prudish as the US.

Question: Why is a thread about a kid finding a dirty DC comic in the Marvel forum? :oldrazz:

I'm just sayin'... that's the sort of research failure that leads to people thinking that all comics are for kids. :oldrazz:

Oh dear, a ten year old saw a naked lady. It's the end of the world. :whatever:

How did this qualify as news? Though I do suppose, in Ogden, Utah I suppose there's not much else to pad out the local tabloid rag

Doubtless the paper will have a flood of "Moral Majority" idiots sending in their complaints about this now like real life Helen Lovejoy's, with their shrill cries of "Think of the children!". The prudishness of some of these people never ceases to make me laugh.

The Spectre #9 hmmm....

Just reprinting it in regular trades would be fine for me. I just want to be able to read it without eBaying all the single issues

It's suppose to be great, but only the first four issues are reprinted in trade

They should reprint Ostrander and Mandrake's Martian Manhunter series while they're at it. I've wanted to read that for some time now.

Yeah i've heard lots of great stuff about it. I really got interested into Spectre after the short in JL:Crisis on Two Earths and Brave and Bold showing Mark Hamill as Spectre.

This morning, I was happy to see Pittsburgh named as Forbes Most Livable City again.......until I saw that Ogden, Utah was #2. Kind of took the bloom off the rose for me..... (Here in the 'Burgh, we still love the naked ladies...)

Yeah, these two Ostrander runs along with the rest of Waid's Flash run and the rest Perez's Wonder Woman would be ideal. Nice to see that DC has such a rich library for their big characters and don't care

What amazes me is that I would think the same comic probably had some violence in it...yet, seeing some breasts is worse than that.

What's not to love?

Mark Hamil as the Spectre? Nice
