This is supposedly news

Haha, remember when that southern printing company that wouldn't print the first issue of Alias because it had a white woman having sex with a black guy? Oh, America.

Was that the reason, or was it because it depicted a rough sex scene?

Their "Awesome" ilk.

Just correcting you.

There is nothing "awesome" about the moral majoity and those like them as far as I am concerned. They are, in general, sexist, racist and homophobic. And they try to hide their prejudices behind a smoke screen of so called "Morality". Their fascists but instead of attempting to chain peoples bodies they seek to chain peoples minds, to repress anything that they consider "Abnormal" and create a boring, tedious world of conformity.

I am very glad that their numbers are dwindling as people become more open minded and freedom of expression coninues to triumph over the forces of repression and so called "Censorship".

I look forward to the day when there aren't any people like the "Moral Majority" left. The world will be a better, more enlightened place.

It was a MAX comic, and I guess basically the first major mature-audiences comic that Marvel had published. But I wouldn't say it was gratuitous, you just saw Jessica's face while they had sex.

It just seems like violence is far more accepted in US culture than sex for no apparent reason, and since we're never going to censor violence--we'll just take out the blood and call it "cartoon violence," further warping kids' perception of violence in general--we might as well bring sexual content up to the same level. Plus, I'm pretty sure our teen pregnancy rates and our violent crime rates are higher than countries who have sexual content policies that are much more level with violent content policies in their media, so I'm not even sure what censoring sexual content so much more than violent content in the US is even supposed to be accomplishing.

Hell, countries with far looser standards on sex and violence in media still do a better job with teen pregnancy and violent crimes (Western Europe and Japan, respectively, come to mind)

Clealry, it is a more inherent problem in our culture than just depictions of it in the media.

How right you are Can'tThinkofAName. If only the idiots who run around with their placards shrilly screaming "Ban this sick filth" and could understand that.

I can't help but to think this is a bit of a rediculous post. Censorship is due to homophobia, racism, and sexism? And the Moral Majority are all those things as well? You're a pretty closed minded and niave individual aren't you?

Just so you know, I consider myself similar to those people and yes, I'm not sexist, racist, or homophobic, and of all those I know like me... only one is homophobic. The rest aren't, and none of us are racist or sexist.

Either way it's no excuse not to print the comic.

Agreed, either reason is ridiculous. But it's unfair to say that racism was the reason they wouldn't print it.

This is the Bilble Belt, chances are the folks who run that company have conservative and religious views and that may have influenced their reason to not print the comic, not the race of the two characters involved.

I've seen the page and yeah, it's definitely not explicit but it's clear enough that Jessica is getting it from behind, hard. Doesn't bother me to see but it could some conservative folks I'm sure.

Yeah, like I said, it was the first MAX comic, and the publisher might have been offended at the whole thing.

Thank God those Canadians don't have any morals:up::)

I did say in general. Perhaps some who think as the moral majority do are not and if you're not then I'm delighted to hear that. But in my experience people who are in favour of censorship usually have some form of agenda to try and "Censor" specific forms of behaviour. For example the Hayes Code was a very obvious tool to try and prevent racial and sexual diversity in the media and to limit the freedoms of sexual expression

If your reasons for supporting censorship are not due to any of that then that's good. But one of the purposes of censorship has always been to repress and oppress the "Different". Be it difference of race, difference of sexuality or simply difference of opinion or lifestyle.

In my opinion all forms of expression should be allowed. So by the same token, I accept your right to be in favour of censorship. You're entitled to your opinion. But in my opinion censorship is, I will be blunt, evil. I consider it a tool of repression and oppression, both of which I consider unhealthy and fascist. I don't want anything censored and will oppose any and all who attempt to force censorship on the world as I feel it leads only to crushing, boring conformity.

Taboos of any kind are rather pointless but taboos against sex and sexuality especially so. All forms of sex, sexuality and sexual expression are healthy and normal, so long as they are between consenting adults. Censoring them just seems puritanical, prejudiced and ludicrous to me

My kind of country:cwink:

Well, it was prejudice of some kind or another in any case

What amazes me is that I would think the same comic probably had some violence in it...yet, seeing some breasts is worse than that.

That's the good old USA for ya. Violence is entertainment but nudity will corrupt the youth. Seems backwards to me, but :whatever:

While I definitely agree that Ostrander's Spectre should get reprinted in trade (I was fortunate enough to find a sizeable amount of the series in a local comic shop, same with Martian Manhunter), I should point out that the issue discussed is from the Moench series that precedes Ostrander's. I read the first few issues of that and wasn't too grabbed by it.
