According to Forbes IT made an absolutely incredible and insane 123M OW at the box office. For a R Rated movie! Wow. That put's "IT" in the Top 30 OW of all time(#27).

It's going to be very interesting/entertaining to gauge the box office result for Thor Ragnarok based on what we have already discussed before and the comparisons there to be had between both movies. Let's see if the massive buzz generated does indeed translates or not into a stunning box office for Thor Ragnarok. The quality of the movie and critical reception will most likely boost the numbers into an even higher level.

Most watched trailers in 24 hours.

1. It - 197 million
2. Fate of the Furious - 139M
3. Thor Ragnarok - 136M

Yeah those were crazy numbers, not far off Deadpool's OW.

IT seems more like a megafreak situation, Thor will act like a normal superhero film I think

I don't think anyone here is saying that Ragnarok is going to blow up like IT did and make way more than your usual superhero tentpole (like IT took vastly more than your average R-rated horror movie), people were just commenting on the comparisons with IT because of the social media buzz and trailer views that IT had, and which Ragnarok has too.

A few months back, some were saying that IT's social media buzz and record smashing trailer views wouldn't translate into box office receipts, and look where we are now, the film's o/w blew up massively. It proves that social media hype and trailer views can and do have an effect on a film's box office. Ragnarok is consistently tracking as one of the most talked about movies on social media, and it's teaser trailer has the third most views in 24 hours of all time (something that The Last Jedi didn't even end up beating). If IT is anything to go by, that could suggest that Ragnarok is going to make a much bigger impact at the box office than some are perhaps expecting.

The GA loves Hulk outside of Hulk solos it seems lol.

Given that both Hulk solos were fairly mediocre, I doubt there's any actual hostility towards solos. The public just haven't received an actual good solo movie for the Hulk yet.

I don't think there's hostility to Hulk solos, but he is a character that is very easy to make work well in a team environment as he can let loose with Hulk Smash while the others do more of the character work. I hope now that we have seen him having a conversation as Hulk (very well too!), there is even more potential for an effective Hulk solo down the line.

I put 900 Million to 1 Billion. Seeing Thor and Hulk interact together is pure Gold. It was some of the best parts of the Avengers movie, and given there has been such a great reaction to the Trailers and given this is the third outing, I can see it pulling off 900 Million to 1 Billion.

Surfer

Same here. Maybe the floor is around the (very) high 800s, but, as some have already stated, it could go considerably higher: early estimates are around 100M for the opening weekend, and if the quality is there, it can skyrocket to 125-130, imo. That will lead to a domestic total north of 300M, not to mention the foreign box office will be huge, 550-600M.

It was smart of Marvel to begin a early marketing campaign/push for Thor Ragnarok. The reason being that it is the next big comic book movie coming out and October should be stacked with trailers for quite a lot of big movies coming out.

The awareness for Ragnarok is already there and the final trailer that imo should be dropping in a few days and many Tv Spots coming out later on will only help to solidify it's place in people minds/agenda. In October we should/could be getting a Justice League, Star Wars, Black Panther, Infinity War teasers and trailers coming out and that will definitely divide people's attention to a certain point.

By the way i am checking the numbers of tickets being sold in the IMAX theatre near me and the one i am watching the movie at.

Concerning the sales of IMAX tickets. 25 days before release.

Opening day / Friday - 419 tickets sold out of 2105 available. (20% of tickets.)

Uppdate 20 days before release:

Opening day / Friday - 440 tickets sold out of 2105 available. (21% of tickets)
Saturday - 342 tickets sold out of 2105 available. (16%)
Sunday - 116 tickets sold out of 1684 available. (7%)

Opening Weekend totals: 898 IMAX tickets sold out of 5894. (15%)

Still thinking it's going to hit $800 million easily with it being near $900 million if the reviews are really good.

The good reviews definitely had an impact in tickets sales for the movie.
From the IMAX theatre i have been following they have sold over 100 IMAX tickets in the last couple of days. I have been updating the numbers in a space of 5 days so i will do it again on October 12th. Things are looking solid in the tickets sales department.

Heck with it. I'll aim high and say 900 - 910, making it the first superhero movie to land in the 900 to billion range. This is exactly the type of movie that usually has great legs.

There are several superhero movies in the billion range.

The movie is still more than 3 weeks away so no concrete projections can be made but I see this one opening at around (112-115 million) right nao. But Ragnarok has been able to sustain an enormous interest/hype on social media platforms and that does suggest that we might see a breakout in a big way. So can't rule out a bigger increase from TDW. Right nao I have Ragnarok increasing (32-36)% over TDW (IM2 to IM3). The initial hype certainly makes a case for an increase similar or at least closer in proximity to Vol 2 from GotG. So 125 million OW isn't too far fetched and that would be a great start for the movie.

Decent, not record setting opening weekend. Good audience and critical reaction. Short movie for more showings. Strong legs.

780 million WW.

Voted 800-900 based solely on what seems to be the quality of the film alone.

Two hours and 10 minutes is a short film?

Yeah, not a 1.5 hour fart in the wind any more lol.
