Am i the only one who is hoping they will stop making this series of X-films and wait 6-10 yrs and start the franchise up again. I know I'm not the first to say this but do what Batman did; LEARN FROM YOUR MISTAKES, set it up from the get go that it will be a trilogy, develop the characters while still furthering the plot, and KEEP THE SAME DIRECTOR & WRITER FOR ALL 3!

I truely believe X-men has the potential to make one of the greatest and deepest action trilogies out there so long as they follow other's precedent. With such an array of complex characters(who symboloze so much) and story plots the likes of which are simply far greater than most coming out in other similar films of the action/thriller genre, there is no reason the right creative minds couldn't take this potential and run with it.
I really like X2 and think X1 is ok and X3 could have been great but was ruined by a poor director and script. So the sooner they end this, IMO, fruitless series, the sooner we'll possibly get a 'definitive X-men franchise'. I look forward to that day, am I alone?

It all comes down to $$$$$$$$

If X3 had bombed at the box office, they might have stopped, I suppose. Although its profit margin was slimmer than the previous movies, it grossed the most and even beat Singer's Superman Returns. That's all the studio financiers care about.

Frankly, I don't want to wait 10 years for another X-movie. I just want them done right.

The X-Men: Origins series will probably end up with a prequel/restart movie anyway, in three or four years time. Fox won't want to let the franchise go, but they must surely be aware of the bashing X3 got from fans and some critics.

Some of the comicbook stories wouldn't work well on film. Sentinels might now seem a copy of Transformers, the Brood were a rip-off of Alien, the Starjammers are a bit way-out for the current reality-grounded franchise, time travel is also possibly a bit far-out.

As you say, a nicely planned trilogy would have been nice, but financially cautious studios don't often commit to things like that. It's more like 'let's see how this one does first.' LOTR was somewhat of an exception in being a planned trilogy.

X4 can be an amazing film in good hands, so starting again isn't necesary right now. X4 is the oportunity to improve, if finally it end worst than X3 (thing that I really doubt) then yes, make a restart, but right now, we can hope a great X4, more or less like X2, but with more of all.

but, for me, an X4 would have to reconcile the deathes of Xavier and whether or not that Magneto bull**** at the end was real or not. I just think that they have done too much damage and a reboot would provide the creators w/ a blank slate and more easily able to bring in characters the right way instead of forcing them in like X3. Angel and Beast(imo, especially Beast) are 2 of the most complex, intrigueing, and unique characters in the X-verse yet the way they were used in X3 for me has about ruined the possibility for them to do right. Don't get me started on my fav character Iceman and how he has been completly raped of his essence.

so much hope lives in a new set of actors, writers, actors, ext that if they do make another movie w/ these people, not to sound like a dick, hope it bombs and tanks and sinks and whatever else u want to call it because, as said earlier, if its not makin money, then and only then can we hope for a reboot.

No, you're not the only one who wants a reboot. As others have said, there will probably be one after the spin-offs. I don't picture them continuing with an X-Men 4. The cast is too expensive, and the character storylines are pretty much wrapped up. A stand alone fourth film is pretty much pointless.

i would be ok with a fourth if they brought back cyclops

As long as Fox has the rights, there is no future. Considering how well the reality based, grounded films went over with the general public, Fox will probably do everything it can to keep the rights to anything and everything X-related on film and milk it to the point where it is no longer a viable source of positive income; i.e., they destroy the properties with poor films (then blame audiences and the material itself...)

Honestly, it seems that Fox has no grand itentions for any of their film properties. Their film business model appears to be to use as little effort and resource as possible as to guarantee a profit, no matter how small.

As I said in another post, X-men really requires a great deal of talent and commitment ($$$$$) to bring their full potential to the big screen. Unfortunately, like a fully realized Batman movie, a fully realized X-men movie is just to much for the small thinkers in Hollywood to fathom.

Movie studios desire films that are both critical and financial mega-blockbusters, but most of them aren't willing to do what it takes to make such films.

The industry is full of penny pinchers...

I honestly hope Wolverine does poorly. Because I feel they think they can make as much money with just Logan and dump the rest of the team! I want the studio to realize that like "Joey" and "Friends" it's the ensemble that makes it work. We didn't go to X-Men because of Wolverine. We went to see the team!

I think if Wolverine and Magneto disappoint, they'll realize that getting cheap and cutting the cast isn't going to make them the same kind of money. And we may just get an X4 written and directed by competent pros.

But Wolverine is a loner and he can carry his own film, provided it's good. Just because Wolverine gets his own film doesn't mean they're going to stop making X-Men movies.

I don't know if 6-10 years is enough. They should wait long enough to the point where a new actor won't be compared to Hugh Jackman as Wolverine.

I think X4 is the way to go. There are still a lot things they haven't done, and a lot they could do with what they have.

I hope that Wolverine is a moderate success. Not enough to make a Wolvie sequel, but enough that Fox won't dump the X-Men altogether (which they might do if Wolvie bombs).

Unless they wait like 25 years, there will be a comparison. The key is to get somebody who has the goods to be called "the next Hugh Jackman".
