My next fan fiction project is going to be a movie script for Thundarr The Barbarian: The Movie. I'm looking for collaborators who would like to throw some of their own ideas into the mix by way of plot devices, subplots, scenes they'd like to see, etc, etc, etc.
I plan on posting the script right here on SHH. When it's finished, I hope to shop it around Hollywood and try and get it picked up as an actual movie project. Naturally, any collaborators will be given a writer's credit.
So if any fans of the show would like to put their two cents in, please do so here on this thread. Here are some of the ideas I have for the movie so far:
1) Modern Day: A pair of astronomers, a bearded man with a receding hairline named Dr. Harris and a younger dark haired woman named Dr. Kraft (based on characters from the episode Mindok The Mind Menace), discover a comet the size of a small planet corkscrewing through space heading towards Earth. They estimate that the comet will reach Earth in 14 years. They warn the world, which then spends the next 14 years preparing for the impending disaster.
2) 14 Years Later: The comet arrives. Lucky for the Earth, the best case scenario happens and it passes us by. However it splits the moon in two and leaves a path of cosmic destruction in its wake.
3) 2000 Years Later: We are introduced to the post apocolyptic world of Thundarr. We see the devestated landscape, the ruined landmarks, and the strange and alien looking mutants.
4) We are introduced to a very young Princess Ariel, her parents, and her future stepfather Sabian. Ariel's parents are the king and queen of the kingdom of Couver (I'm from Vancouver, and we have a very large Asian population here, so I decided to make that her home). They are good and just rulers. Sabian is their Royal Sorcerer, and it is his job to defend the kingdom from the evil wizards who rule most of the world.
5) Sabian lusts for power, as well as the beautiful queen. He starts studying darker and darker magics to attain this. Eventually, he murders the king and blames it on assassins. He then enchants the queen and marries her, gaining control of the kingdom.
6) Sabian subtly takes away the rights and freedoms of his new subjects, so gradually that they don't even notice until it is too late.
7) We meet Thundarr and his people. He is a young teen, and son of his tribe's chieftan. He is learning the skills he needs to one day lead his people. His father is negotiating a trade agreement with a neighboring tribe of moks. Thundarr and the mok chieftan's son, Ookla, become friends.
8) The village is attacked by Sabian's forces, and anyone not killed is captured as slaves. Thundarr and Ookla are put to work doing heavy labour.
9) Years later, Thundarr and Ookla are adults and immeasurably strong. They are now forced to fight as gladiators in The Arena (the ruins of BC Place). Princess Ariel has grown into an incredibly beautiful young woman. Sabian lusts after her, and disposes of his current wife so that he may take the younger model as his bride. His power, both magical and political, have both grown so great that he no longer even hides the murder from his subjects.
10) The murder of her mother sparks a rebellion in Ariel. She frees the slaves and stages a revolt. During the chaos she uses her sorcery to save Thundarr from certain death at the hands of a mutant. She then leads Thundarr and Ookla to safety. They steal two horses and an equart and ride away.
11) Sabian's troops quash the rebellion, but at a cost of a great deal of slave labour. He sends troops out to recapture as many slaves as they can, and to find his rebellious stepdaughter.
12) Thundarr, Ariel, and Ookla stumble across a thousand year old crypt. In it they find the remains of a long dead hero, and a golden sword hilt. When Thundarr takes up the hilt, it answers to his call and he becomes the new master of the Sunsword.
That's about all I have figured out so far. If anyone has any suggestions on what should be changed, what should be added, and where I can go from here, please post them on this thread.
