i thought the trailer was pretty mediocre, but it does look promising, and i will be seeing it.

This looks simply f**king AWESOME. I'm definately seeing this in theaters.

I loved the trailer, the atmosphere of it was amazing and the visuals stunning as Carmine said.

i'm getting really excited for this. i love when burton's on his game.

Like all Burton films, they have a great look to them. I watched the trailer for this and was kinda like "errr i don't know" I don't care for musicals in the first place.

The trailer was mediocre and yet promising?

Like all Burton films, they have a great look to them. I watched the trailer for this and was kinda like "errr i don't know" I don't care for musicals in the first place.

I'm not a fan of many musicals either. But I think this is an exception, for me anyway.

I loved the trailer. My only problem is that Deep seemed to be using the exact same voice as he does for Captain Jack. No one here can tell me they didn't imagine Capt Jack when they saw that trailer:oldrazz:

He should have switched his voice up a bit.

I dont care for musicals, but Tim Burton and Johnny Depp are involved, I'm interested. Tim Burtons movies are great, despite what some people say.

Well, except for the singing part. :o

looks ok... th singing looks awful. but the visuals are great.

hopefully timmy can redeem himself fro hs recent garbage fests

Looks good. And it seems 'By The Sea' is still in. Love that song.

My Quick Time is really f***ed up for some reason. It keeps saying the .mov files can't be played by quick time. Hunter Rider, I was still somehow able to watch the direct link you provided - thanks.

As for the trailer, I thought it looked pretty good.I've always wanted to see the show on Broadway, so I'm really looking foward to see it on the big screen.

I have to admit that when I watched the trailer for the first time I did think he sounded like Jack. It'll probably work for this character though. I wasn't planning to see the film, but now I want to. I also really dig burton when he's on his game (which to me is usually when he's with depp)

I am actually seeing the Broadway-Revival touring version of Sweeney Todd tonight in SF and will be leaving in a few minutes. So I'll have both the original show (from the DVD), the new show, and film to compare when I get it all.

SHOULD BE GREAT! Burton's Sweeney looks rather promising. We shall see.

The movie looks amazing (doesn't mean it will be coughPOTOandRentcough)....but the trailer was disappointing.

It sold it as a thriller and not as a very dark, disturbing but wily sardonic musical by the master himself, Sondheim. I think visually this will be great and the story looks well told, albeit I'm not sure about the cast's singing talents yet, but hey it can't be worse than casting Gerard Butler as the Phantom of the Opera. But I still looks very promising. Still a crappy trailer when it almost completely hides the fact is a musical.

P.S. For all those who say "I don't like musicals," have you actually seen many musicals? I find that a programmed response usally from people whose only interaction with musicals is Disney films and maybe Molun Rouge and Chicago (with the former being quite brilliant).

once i got over the initial shock of "hey this looks exactly like every other Tim Burton movie" it looks decent

but seriously Burton needs to learn some new tricks

Depp looks very simialr to Eddy Scissorhands

the aesthetics look very similar to sleepy hollow

and Helena Boham Carter is in it

funny how depp has the jack sparrow voice...while on a pirate ship... while potc trailer music is playing...lol

Alright...

Singing doesn't look/sound that great,

Appears as though there is an over-use of CGI,

bur besides thattttttttt

This movie looks tight!!

And I'm sure the movie is much better than the trailer, since the film is supposedly going to be bloody as hell and they aren't aloud to show any of that in trailers.

It does seem like it's trying to hide its identity as a musical, and leaves out a lot of the black comedy elements (though Burton's approach to the material is probably a darker, less comedic one).

Yeah... however, I think with SWEENEY TODD you can get away with singers who aren't singers, if you know what I mean.

Johnny Depp isn't showcasing any great vocal talent in the small bit he's afforded in the trailer, but I do think the performance comes through wonderfully. I'm interested to hear his take on some of the "prettier" songs, like "My Friends," "Pretty Women," and "Johanna."

I've heard Alan Rickman sing, and I liked what I heard. It's a very weird sound (ala Jeremy Irons' singing voice), but one that will make the judge's "Johanna" ooze with creepiness.

Indeed. Musicals cover a broad range. SWEENEY TODD is unlike any other musical I've ever encountered.

Oh and can someone upload the trailer to Youtube?

I agree, you're pretty much right on all points but for me, Burton's novelty hasn't worn off yet:woot:

My only gripe is that basically, instead of casting the right woman for the main female lead, he always just casts his wife...because she's his wife.

Thank God Steven Spielberg doesn't cast Kate Capshaw in the main female role in every single film he's made.

I can't get over how much he sounds like Captain Jack here.

But I love Captain Jack, so I'm willing to deal with it.

The movie looks great--I hope they do a second trailer with more of the music in it. I happen to love musicals, and Sweeney is one of the most complex musicals I've ever seen, so I'm hoping the movie will do it justice. Looks good so far.

I'm looking foward to this, but the jury's still out on whether Depp can pull off the singing. The next trailer (if there is one) needs to make it more apparent that it's a musical because I had no idea Depp was singing until he said " I will have Vennnngance!". And yeah, he sounds a lot like Captain Jack. Here's hoping it'll be great.
