Re: JimL

If you were to do a vox pop about comics books and characters in the middle of a random shopping mall in the US, Canada, the UK or the rest of the English speaking world most people would probably list you off Batman, Superman, Spider-Man, the X Men, the Hulk, and since the Avengers, Iron Man, Thor, Black Widow and Hawkeye. After that you’d probably have a reasonable amount of people who’d know Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, The Flash, Fantastic Four and Archie comics. After that there’d be a massive drop off in recognition

An interesting list, but Conway omitted the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Any semantics/accuracy concerns?

I ask this due to Russell Parr's book on intellectual property merchandising rates.

I would prefer to exclude properties that started outside of comic books that have seen subsequent adaptation for comic books. Many properties from literature, motion picture, television and so forth saw such adaptation. This includes excluding comic strip originated properties such as Dick Tracy, Flash Gordon and so forth.
