More details on Tokyo RPG Factory's newly announced RPG.

Square Enix has launched the official Japanese website for Lost Sphear, its newly announced RPG from Tokyo RPG Factory, providing first information and new screenshots of the game’s world, battle system, and main characters.

Get the details below.
■ World

Introduction

Lost-Sphear_06-01-17_001.jpg

It is said that the moon created the world…
I heard such a fairy tale a long time ago…

It was around the time when my mother was still around…
It is said that the world often disappeared, and that it was often reborn…

Even now, I still remember. The “moon” depicted in my picture book…
Big… unfeeling… beautiful… dreadful…

But, that is a fairy tale. The moon does not say anything, it does not do anything…

That was truly a long time ago…

Story

This world is created by Memories.
By living, people become Memories of the planet, which is how this world takes form. Even now if there are memories from the everlasting remote past, those are Memories of this moment as well.

And when Memories are lost, their existence is also erased. That is what people call “Lost.”

Things that are Lost originally could not be restored by the power of humans. This way of things was supposed to stay the same throughout the generations.

However, a young man who uses the power of Memories appears in the world. That young man’s name is Kanata.
Whether he will bring hope or new despair to the world is something that remains to be seen.

But there is no mistake that Kanata’s journey surrounding Memories that is now beginning will have an impact on the world.

The “Lost” Phenomenon

The “Lost” phenomenon had suddenly hit Kanata and others’ hometown, the lunar bell town of Eru. The phenomenon instantly turns something that currently exists into a white fog, and then it disappears. This phenomenon, a result of Memory loss, is beginning to occur all over the world…

The Setting of the Adventure

In Lost Sphear, you will move between various areas on the world map.

Lost-Sphear_06-01-17_003.jpg

In this world created by Memories, there are a great number of settings rich in variety and mixed with various cultures.

Lost-Sphear_06-01-17_004.jpg

■ System

Battle System

Just like I Am Setsuna, the battle system for Lost Sphear is based on Chrono Trigger‘s Active Time Battle 2.0 system. You will enter battle seamlessly from the area map.

Lost-Sphear_06-01-17_005.jpg

You will encounter monsters on the area map, and the battle will begin when you approach them.

Since you choose commands, you can carefully clear each fight while observing the battle situation.

Move Around in Battle

In Lost Sphear, you can move around any character during battle. This way you can utilize the characteristics of your weapons and magic to enjoy a much more strategic battle.

Move to a position where several monsters are in your line of shot and attack with the crossbow.

You will succeed by dealing damage to all the enemies in the shooting line.

By moving into different positions when using ranged attack skills, you can be sure to deal damage to every enemy.

■ Characters

Kanata

 • Age: 16
 • Weapon: Sword

 • Lost-Sphear_06-01-17_009.jpg

A boy who grew up in the lunar bell town of Eru. You get the impression that he has matured based on his calm personality, but he has a burning spirit within him and his honest, childlike nature still remains.

While he is self-taught, his ability with a sword can compete even against Imperial soldiers, and his role becomes to exterminate the monsters that sometimes appear in town.
When the phenomenon occurs in Eru, Kanata awakens to his power to change the world through Memories, and the Empire asks for his cooperation in investigating the Lost phenomenon occurring all throughout the world.

If his power is of use to the world, he will decide to cooperate with the Empire and go on a journey across the world under the condition that they help him find his mother, who disappeared when he was little.

Lumina

 • Age: 18
 • Weapon: Melee

 • Lost-Sphear_06-01-17_010.jpg

Kanata’s childhood friend and a girl who drifted into Eru when she was little.

She is average in both physical ability and magical disposition, but she accompanies Kanata and the others as an escort using her self-taught melee techniques.

While there are times when she throws her fists at Kanata and Locke, whom she is close friends with, she is really a polite and gentle girl who is considerate of her opponents.
When she first came to town, she neither laughed or cried, but she gradually regained her emotions by meeting Kanata.

For that reason, she shows deep affection for Kanata, but whether it is an affection of friendship or one of love is something that even she herself does not know.

Locke

 • Age: 13
 • Weapon: Crossbow

 • Lost-Sphear_06-01-17_011.jpg

Kanata’s childhood friend and a boy who lives in the lunar bell city of Eru. He is younger than Kanata and Lumina, but has a cheerful and lively personality, often finds himself taking actions that lead those two along.

He is good with his hands and can make a crossbow as if he is making a toy, becoming skilled in the craft before he knew it as he accompanied Kanata and Lumina on their monster exterminations.

While he does not openly announce it, his father hold a highs office in the Empire, and his identity is secret. However, he has a complex in that he never met his father. Based on his desire to meet his father, he cooperates with the Empire and chooses to act alongside Kanata, who leaves the town.

Van

 • Age: 20
 • Weapon: Bit
 • Lost-Sphear_06-01-17_012.jpg
A young man who suddenly appeared in the lunar bell town of Eru. He seems to know something about the disaster that occurred in the town, but will not say much. While he says cold things, he is actually kind-hearted.
He uses mysterious weapons called “Bits” that do everything from attack to defend while being controlled with magical power. It is not a weapon anyone can use, as it quite difficult to master, but is controlled through outstanding concentration and shows overwhelming capabilities in combat.
Since seeing Kanata’s awakening with his own eyes, he took on a cooperative stance and will ultimately head to the Empire with Kanata and the others.
Lost Sphear is due out for PlayStation 4 and Switch in Japan this fall, and for PlayStation 4, Switch, and PC in North America and Europe in early 2018.

Lost Sphear will launch digitally for PlayStation 4, Switch, and PC via Steam on January 23 in the Americas and Europe, Square Enix announced. Physical editions (PlayStation 4, Switch) are exclusive to the Square Enix Online Store.

Pre-orders for the PlayStation 4 digital version of Lost Sphear will include a “Memoirs of the Moon” dynamic theme instant reward and two music tracks on launch day: “Market Town Marpennig” and “Town of Elgarthe.” Pre-orders for the Steam version will include a custom wallpaper and the two music tracks.

Square Enix also introduced two new characters and the “Vulcosuit” armor that players can acquire in the game:
Sherra
Lost-Sphear-Dated-Jan-23_07-25-17_001.jpg
Sherra is a priestess who uses a traditional bow of similar range to Locke’s crossbow. However, while Locke uses crossbows and tinkers with mechanical crafting, Sherra specializes in heal magic and various bow-related abilities.
Obaro
Lost-Sphear-Dated-Jan-23_07-25-17_002.jpg
Obaro is an elderly man who came back into existence upon the awakening of Kanata’s power. Contrary to the physical strengths of Kanata and his friends, Obaro specializes in unleashing powerful elemental magic, demolishing large enemy mobs.
Vulcosuit

The Vulcosuit is mechanized armor gifted to the people from the ancients within the world of Lost Sphear. Meet two new characters and two of the mecha you'll pick up.
Square Enix has released new information and screenshots of Lost Sphearintroducing new characters Obaro, Sherra, the controllable mecha known as Vulcosuits, and more.
Get the details below.
? Characters
Obaro

 • Age: 54
 • Weapon: Staff
Lost-Sphear_07-30-17_001.jpg
A mysterious man. Upon the awakening of Kanata’s “power of Memory,” Obaro was freed from a seemingly eternal state of Lost (when one’s existence is erased) and came back into existence.
Obaro calls himself “Armored Man” of the human race one generation ago, and furthermore says that he is a king, but the truth of that is unclear.
While heavily regretting the actions he took in the past, Obaro decides to accompany and assist Kanata, who freed him from his Lost state and whom he believes to be the savior who will lead the world to the way it should be, in order to help him.
Contrary to the physical strengths of Kanata and his friends, Obaro specializes in unleashing powerful elemental magic, demolishing large enemy mobs.
—By making full use of his magical power, which has not weakened with age, Obari attacks using powerful magic.
Lost-Sphear_07-30-17_002.jpg
Sherra

 • Age: 15
 • Weapon: Bow
Lost-Sphear_07-30-17_003.jpg
A battle priestess of a clan called the “People of Twilight,” who live in the sacred mountains of Rahito.
Since ancient times, it has been believed that they can talk to monsters. It is also rumored that they are the cause of the world’s Lost phenomenon.
Even among the magic users of the People of Twilight, the magical power of the one chosen as the battle priestess is immeasurable. In heal magic, especially, there is no one superior.
Contrary to her appearance, Sherra has high physical ability and is a master of the bow, the height of which matches her own.
Sherra’s bow is a traditional bow of similar range to Locke’s crossbow. However, while Locke uses crossbows and tinkers with mechanical crafting, Sherra specializes in heal magic and various bow-related abilities.
—Sherra uses powerful healing magic, as well as various bow-based skills.

? System
The Vulcosuit
The Vulcosuit is mechanized armor gifted to the people from the ancients that existed long ago. It significantly enhances the abilities of its pilot, has a unique function called “Paradigm Drive” specific to each Vulcosuit, and is an overwhelming presence on the battlefield. Although it is an extremely valuable weapon, Kanata and company, who are working with the Empire and pursuing the mystery of the Lost phenomenon, will acquire their own Vulcosuits by chance.
Lost-Sphear_07-30-17_005.jpg
When piloting the Vulcosuit, all actions use VP. (Editor’s Note: English screenshots released earlier this week show VP, while today’s Japanese screenshots show EN, which stands for Energy. We’re guessing VP stands for Vulcopoints, or something along those lines.) The VP Gauge is shared among the party, and when reduced to zero, the party members piloting Vulcosuits are forced to disembark. VP can be restored by resting at the inn.
—The VP Gauge is displayed in the lower right of the screen. Here it is at full capacity.
Lost-Sphear_07-30-17_006.jpg
—Performing Vulcosuit-specific actions will reduce the VP Gauge.

—If your VP Gauge is reduced to zero, you will be forced to disembark from the Vulcosuit, even during battle.

Vulcosuit Characteristics – Area Map
As long as you have VP, you can freely pilot and disembark from your Vulcosuit on the world map and area map.

Lost-Sphear_07-30-17_010.jpg
By using “Boost” on the area map, your movement speed increases for a fixed period of time, allowing you to move without encountering enemies.

Lost-Sphear_07-30-17_012.jpg
The power of the Vulcosuit can also be used to remove obstacles blocking your path, clearing the path forward.

Lost-Sphear_07-30-17_014.jpg
Vulcosuit Characteristics – Battle
By building up a character’s ATB gauge, that character can pilot the Vulcosuit by consuming half of their ATB gauge.

When piloting the Vulcosuit, your stats, such as attack power and defense power, significantly rise.

Fadiel

An original Vulcosuit encountered at the armored castle Lagunes, which activated in response to Kanata at first contact. It has superior communication functions compared to other Vulcosuits, and can link its data with the Vulcosuits it is acting alongside.
Its Paradigm Drive is “Co-Op,” which allows it to trigger a powerful collaboration technique by linking up with the another character piloting a Vulcosuit.
—A Vulcosuit collaboration technique. There are techniques that can be unleashed with any party member, and techniques that require a specific party member..

Legrufa

Just like Kanata’s Fadiel, Legrufa is an original Vulcosuit encountered at the armored castle Lagunes, which activated in response to Van. Its special trait is its support for Van’s exclusive weapons known as Bits.
Its Paradigm Drive is “Divine,” which expands the Bits to the sky and activates when an ally or enemy performs an action that satisfies its conditions. Said conditions and the resulting effect are determined by the type of Divine used.
—Galatine: Activate the Paradigm Drive immediately following a critical hit from an ally, and the expanded Bits will turn into a giant sword that swoops down on the enemies.

Traveling by Ship
While players could not travel by ship in I Am Setsuna, you will obtain your own ship in Lost Sphear, which you can use to travel to islands and new continents.
Lost-Sphear_07-30-17_021.jpg
Various Mechanisms
In the various ruins left behind by the ancient civilizations of the world of Lost Sphear, there are often places with various mechanisms designed to keep out trespassers. It is necessary to overcome these mechanisms in order to solve the mystery of the Lost phenomenon.

Lost Sphear is due out for PlayStation 4 and Switch on October 12 in Japan, and for PlayStation 4, Switch, and PC on January 23 in the Americas and Europe.

Lost Sphear details Jigan Empire and related characters, obtaining Memories, and Artifacts

A look at the game world's largest country.
Square Enix has released new information and screenshots of Lost Sphearintroducing the Jigan Empire, characters Zemlord and Galdra, Galdra’s Vulcosuit, how to obtain Memories, and Artifacts.
Get the details below.
? World
Jigan Empire
Lost-Sphear_08-24-17_001.jpg
The world’s largest country, its territory makes up half of the world. While it is a military nation that has assertively adopted a mechanical culture, it is by no means a country in which military affairs are considered top priority, and has a government that aims to enrich the lives of its people.
—The Empire’s Capital City of Watt is divided into three areas.
Lost-Sphear_08-24-17_002.jpg
—The royal palace’s impressive entrance. The palace is under the strict guard of its garrison.

Lost-Sphear_08-24-17_004.jpg
? Characters
Zemlord

 • Age: 40
Lost-Sphear_08-24-17_005.jpg
The Imperial prime minister of Jigan, who has the absolute confidence of the Emperor. He is strict on himself as well as others, and is feared by many, but has the overwhelming support of both the people of the Empire and the Imperial army, so it can be even be said that he is the real leader of the Jigan Empire.
He thinks priority should be given to what can be done to enrich the lives of the people of the Empire, and if a crisis approaches the Empire, will take whatever means necessary to protect the Empire without hesitation.
While he considers the existence of Kanata to be hope, Kanata’s existence is also a realization of his own powerlessness.
Lost-Sphear_08-24-17_006.jpg
Galdra

 • Age: 29
 • Weapon: Katana
Lost-Sphear_08-24-17_007.jpg
The leader of the Imperial Knights tasked with the protection of the Emperor of the Jigan Empire. A famous knight in the Empire, he inherited his sword skills from his father, which are said to surpass even the top class of the Imperial army. Also, he is a distinguished existence that is said to be both well-learned and endowed with great command ability.
As the right arm of the Imperial prime minister Zemlord, he is investigation the Lost phenomenon occurring all over the world. He was there when Kanata revived the lunar bell town of Eru and asked Kanata too work together with the Empire.
—In addition to powerful attack skills from his katana, Galdra can use support skills for both himself and the party.
Lost-Sphear_08-24-17_008.jpg
? Vulcosuits
Ecteat
Lost-Sphear_08-24-17_009.jpg
A Vulcosuit that has existed within the Empire since long ago, and has been passed down for exclusive use by the leader of the Imperial Knights.
For the leader of the Imperial Knights, it is an admired Vulcosuit, and as it is a commander Vulcosuit, it can access an network of confidential information collected by the Empire. However, its true worth is its capability in battle, as it can fully reproduce the movement of Galdra, a master of the katana.
—Paradigm Drive: Godspeed
Consecutively uses the selected skills by moving at a speed that leaves no openings for the enemy to attack. It is a powerful Paradigm Drive that lets you unleash multiple skills input within a fixed period.

? Obtaining Memories
In order to restore what has been Lost, or otherwise rebuild it, Memories, which can be said are the heart of existence, are necessary. By talking to people who know of Lost people and structures, or reading books related to Lost things, you will be able to trace those Memories. And with Kanata’s “power of Memories,” those Memories can be crystallized.
Also, by battling the monsters living in each area, it is possible to acquire the Memories they possess, and on your journey, you may come across Memories crystallized throughout eternity.
Often using the precious Memories obtained by these methods, Kanata and company will revive what has become Lost.
—Obtain a Memory by crystallizing it through conversation with someone who knows of it.

—Through battle, you can obtain the Memories possessed by monsters.

The Lost phenomenon corroding this world threatens the everyday lives of the people. Those who have lost loved ones, those who have lost their homes… Kanata will meet many people in despair on his journey. Gather Memories as quickly as possible and turn each person’s despair into hope.
—This boy is in despair about his mother, who has become Lost. By listening to his story about before she became Lost, you will be able to obtain that Memory and restore her from Lost.

—Even the interiors of dungeons have become Lost. Collect Memories to be able to advance to its depths.

? Artifacts
Just like Kanata and company’s hometown, the lunar bell town of Eru, important artifacts that support the lives of the people suddenly became Lost one day. The world map is scattered with traces of these Lost artifacts, and by reviving or possibly rebuilding these artifacts with the power of Memories, the range of the player’s adventure will expand. Additionally, the powers possessed by these artifacts will grant players various benefits for their adventure.
—The Lost phenomenon has developed across a vast range of the world map. Important artifacts vital for communication, such as bridges and lighthouses, have become Lost.

—In addition to being able to use Kanata’s power of Memory to constructing artifacts and restore an region from Lost, by reviving the huge lighthouse here known as the Clairvoyant Lighthouse, you will gain access to a mini-map.

Artifacts that Change the Game
There are various types of artifacts, including those that increase the number of items you can obtain, those that have a significant effect on battle, and so on. In other words, the artifacts you create using the Memories you collect will make a difference in Kanata and company’s journey. How will you revive the world, and what sort of benefits will you receive? Those decisions rest solely on the player.
—By constructing the “Demon Eye Lighthouse,” you will be able to see monsters’ HP and ATB gauges in battle.

—By constructing the “Zone Gate,” your critical rate when using the Instant System will increase in battle.

It should be noted that even if you have created an artifact already, you can use new memories to rebuild another artifact.
Lost Sphear is due out for PlayStation 4 and Switch on October 12 in Japan, and for PlayStation 4, Switch, and PC on January 23 in the Americas and Europe.
