NEW YORK (Hollywood Reporter) – Popular young adult novel "The Heartbreakers" is being turned into a movie called "Rules of Dating for Teenage Girls."

United Artists has acquired rights to the material and will develop the feature.

"Rules of Dating" centers on four friends and their on-again, off-again dalliances with boys. After several of the girls are dumped, they devise a set of rules they are sure will snag any man and prevent future breakups.

Those familiar with the project described it as a coming-of-age comedy with a girl-power streak.

Journalist-turned-novelist Pamela Wells published her debut novel, "The Heartbreakers," in fall 2007. She followed that a year later with a second novel, "Crushes," that focused on many of the same characters.

Jennifer Ross, a postproduction veteran with credits on HBO's "Sex and the City" and "Big Love," among others, is in negotiations to write the script.

Projects aimed at tween and young teen girls are in vogue in the wake of the massive success of properties like "Twilight" and the box-office success this past weekend of "Hannah Montana: The Movie."

Selena Gomez better be in this movie! :o

Stop catering to tween girls. Nerds ages 18-35 need attention!

I seriously don't understand what are people seeing in Selena Gomez.

But then again, I rather not find out, so keep it for yourselves.:)

What's Tom Cruise got to do with this movie?

He does need a movie that his teen daughter he adopted with Nicole Kidman can watch.

Ha! I saw the title and thought for a second that ole' Tom had finally snapped and climbed up on the roof of Disney studios with a Sniper rifle or something....

When I saw the title, I thought he'd finally sided with Anonymous.

They need abusive stalkers to break ground with the target audience, I'm afraid. :(
