Warner Bros. Rebooting Tomb Raider

Warners Bros. Pictures and producer Dan Lin (upcoming Sherlock Holmes) are in early development on a a reboot of "Tomb Raider," the popular video game action franchise featuring Lara Croft.

Paramount previously made the two movies based on the game, but the rights have since reverted to Eidos. When Time Warner upped its stake to 19.92% in Eidos in December, films rights to the property were included as part of the deal.

Lin will produce the project via his Lin Pictures while Stephen Gilchrist will co-produce; Ian Livingstone of Eidos will executive produce.

The new project, however, is expected to revamp the character and her mission and bear little resemblance to the original pictures. It will reimagine the origins of the character, her love interest and the main villain.

As an open-writing assignment, the project is still in its nascent stages. An actress who could play the role Angelina Jolie made famous would likely come on after a writer and director are attached.

o.k

1) I can't believe Jolie is being credited with making Croft popular when she sucked in the role, and the game is what made it popular

2) Could this be RHONA MITRA's calling? She was the model for the game version. She's british. Can act and can do action...i think it's her time!

Making Rise of the Tomb Raider an XBOX exclusive for any amount of time was a terrible move and they released it up against huge competition.

I look forward to seeing all of the people whining over her not being "big/muscular" enough stumble all over themselves to try and CYA once the film comes out and she's a badass. You know, just like with Anne Hathaway and Gal Gadot. Because apparently some people just never learn their lesson.

Also working out is a thing. Daisy Ridley has gotten REALLY tone/fit to play Rey, Gal noticeably put on muscle to play Wonder Woman, and going back even further, Linda Hamilton got amazingly jacked up to play Sarah Connor in Terminator 2. These people have access to some of the best trainers, nutritionists, and health/fitness gurus on the planet. So I'm not worried about Alicia's physique at all right now.

Anne Hathaway wasn't a very convincing butt kicker in TDKR. If there is anyone who is a great example of a near transformation, it is Linda Hamilton for T2 and Emily Blunt in Edge of Tomorrow. They didn't just put on muscle or get fit, they learned how to look like they could fight. Daisy is of course another good example.

I wonder how much money they made off that deal. Might have been worth it considering how they crapped on the rather good sales for the first game.

Vikander looks fine now and will look fine when she puts on weight and works out for the role. The weight complaints are childish.

I'm a big fan of Anne's Catwoman myself. Ah yes, I forgot about Emily Blunt, oops. Also Sigourney Weaver in the Alien films as well.

I don't think that she needs to look hugely muscular. She merely needs to look, fit/athletic, that's all.

going by the games, there's gonna be a lot of climbing for her, so she better start train for that :oldrazz:

Too be fair, you don't know till you know. I am happy she got this role. Doesn't mean it is going to work out. A lot of this is on the director. The right director can make anyone look like they can kick ass. Edgar Wright turned Simon Pegg, Nick Frost and Michael Cera in to certifiable badasses.

I like Anne's Catwoman. She just didn't look like an ass kicker to me.

True, but I don't think that there's any reason to be pessimistic until, well we're given a reason to be.

I read that the writer is horrendous, but I can't remember who it is right now. Plus, a video game movie.

same screenwriter of ninja turtles and snow white and the huntsman

Yeah, that will do it. That will kill my enthusiasm. :funny:

Agreed. I played the first and really enjoyed it but now I have to wait a whole year after the second one came out to play it.

Is anyone else of the mind that Vikander doesn't need to bulk up for the role?

Aren't they following the new reboot of the game and making this an origin story? Why would she need to get muscular

I don't think she needs to add a lot of muscle. But you'd think, considering the character, she'd need to get into Daisy TFA shape. Just because the game gives an unnatural look for a supposed adventure, doesn't mean the live action movie should. :woot:

lara croft still has to look athletic she is'nt a twig but no one is asking viknder to gain 20 pounds so i think a similar build emily blunt had in edge of tomorrow is doable

I mean I dont care either way. It'll be the least of my worries.
I haven't played the reboot games so I don't know how much hand to hand combat there is. All the gameplay I saw was just climbing, jumping, etc.

As they develop her more into classic Lara Croft or even just more experience Lara Croft, I expect her to bulk up

It's called trainers, dudes. I'm sure prior to Edge of Tomororrow and The Force Awakens, then actresses were 'skinny'.

And for the love of God, I'll pay anyone the money so they can play the new TR games.

Have you seen climbers? That is kind of the point.

well yeah I don't think anyone is doubting whether she can do it or that she's too skinny to bulk up now.
