I said more seriously like CBMs nowadays. They are not doing that.

I don't see how you can draw that conclusion when the last few years have been nothing but genuine attempts to adapt video games.

Are you a gamer? Are you a comic reader? I don't see how it can be any more obvious unless you aren't really into both of the above. Studios are obviously much more risk averse on games and as a result don't commit fully like they do on even much smaller comic properties.

i thought the new trailer was much better, definitely feeling the influence of the recent games and alicia is fantastic

I was ok with the trailer until he said the fate of the world was at stake. Does the world really need to be at stake in a Tomb Raider film?

I'm a casual gamer and a comic reader, but I'm seeing nothing in the likes of Warcraft, Assassin's Creed and now Lara Croft that indicates to me there isn't a real effort to elevate the genre compared to attempts from the past.

No way in hell was Assassin's Creed a genuine effort, they thought they could cast Fassbender, give him a cool costume, and half-a** everything else. Setting the majority of the movie in the present day, the least popular aspect of the franchise, and relegating the past, which is what the games are actually popular for, to a subplot hardly seems like a genuine effort. I'll concede that Warcraft seemed to be a pretty genuine effort, but one movie made with real effort not panning out doesn't mean that good video game movies can't, or won't, ever be a thing, even though Warcraft ended up falling on its face for the most part I think it was very encouraging for the genre, these films are getting better one tiny step at a time and that slow progress can be frustrating but I'm not about to give up hope that they'll get it right eventually.

Is Lara the leading lady of video games? Not saying she isn't up towards the top but I always thought Chun Li was considered the first lady of the gaming.

Oh I would say Lara easily (and I honestly wouldn't have even considered Chun Li), but I'm only a casual gamer so what do I know.

"You messed with the wrong family!"

Lol. Besides that silly line and the Destiny's Child cover I actually enjoyed the new trailer fine.

Kinda depends on how you look at it, I'd either give it to Lara or Samus Aran, Samus has a decade on Lara and five years on Chun Li, but it has been awhile since Metroid had a major release so Lara's definitely more prominent now.

Earlier script talk

Yes. In the London scenes there is one scene with Lara out with Sophie and her other flatmates. They get drunk and Lara and Sophie start talking deep and Sophie mentions that they should sort their lives out.

Sophie is said to be played by Hannah John-Kamen, who Deadline reported is Lara's "flatmate and best friend".

Does that mean that it was Hannah John-Kamen saying "At some point we have to face up to who we are. Who we're meant to be."?

^Actually did hear the script was decent to good. The trade to get it at the time was not worth it. Eh.

SplashReport was negative on the script for it they obtained and wrote about back on April 13, 2017. However there's indications other people have noticed that they've changed things about it while leaving others alone.

One of them certainly. Even my parents, who have never played a video game in their lives, know who Lara Croft is.

Chun-li and Samus Aran would probably to the other most well-known.

Arguably Lara, Chun Li and Samus Aran would be the three most famous. Who else would be on the list of top tier? Jill Valentine, Sonya Blade, Princess Peach even?

Yes, also maybe Female Commander Shepherd as well.

to eventually get their own movie?
Zelda.
I'd say the chick from Mirror's Edge,
but Hardcore Henry and The Villainess already did that.
Oh and the protagonist of Portal.
Bayonetta probably already has one animated.

In terms of historical significance, it's Samus Aran because she's really the first playable video game female hero. Also, it was a surprise at the end when you find out she's female.

Lara Croft became a pop-cultural icon, so her status is undeniable. Even the first Tomb Raider movie was actually a sizable hit. Hollywood's been trying to make this Lara Croft origin movie basically since before the rebooted game series started.

The original PS1 games are dated, but they also sort of helped set the stage for future 3D action-puzzle platformers. And they were very popular, along with games like Resident Evil 1&2, Crash Bandicoot, Metal Gear Solid, etc. They were basically like the killer apps for the PS1.

And yeah Chun-Li was big, but Street Fighter II was pretty huge in the 1990s in general. I remember when arcades were still a thing, you could tell how good an arcade was based on the setup for Street Fighter II. Like some arcades would spring for an elaborate large-screen cabinet for the Street Fighter II games and its subsequent alternate versions.

Samus Aran is obviously the most historically significant character, Lara's probably the only one that crosses multiple mediums, although Chun Li is pretty well known too. She's always been one of the most popular Street Fighter characters, probably in part to her being the only woman in the game until Super Street Fighter II. If they ever try a Street Fighter movie again I'm betting Chun Li will again be the first character they focus on.

I mean talk about multiple mediums, Chun-Li did that too, and she did it before Lara Croft ;)

Also, they already did a new Street Fighter movie in 2009 that only focused on Chun-Li. You might've heard of it.

Yeah that was definitely her who said that. I wasn't aware that she was gonna be in this one. I only know her from Killjoys and she's decent in that.

2nd trailer was much better than whatever the 1st trailer was. A little bit of actual hype for me now.
