I haven't played a TH game since the first THUG. And after playing the skate demo like crazy and then trying this demo out, I have no interest in playing another TH game. The controls are awful in comparison to skate. TH needs to stop making these games.

But the demo is up on XBL.

I think skateboarding ran it's course in the videogame world with Tony Hawk 2. There's really nothing about a Tony Hawk since then that made one worth buying.

Skate innovated controls for innovation sake, or maybe to stand out more, but all in all, I was done with skateboarding games ten years ago.

Well, that's dandy, but I went through my Tony Hawk Pro Skater phase, and now EA (I can't believe I'm actually saying this about EA....) made a fantastic game that's probably the most satisfying gaming experience I've ever played.

is the game really that bad bc I thought Project 8 was a good one. I hope the final version turns out okay

They also made the skateboarders "gangsta" instead of "punk" so they completely screwed up the game from the get-go.

skate is extremely satisfying and really sets itself apart from THPS. The controls may be innovative 'for the sake of it' But it works completely. It feels very natural skating around. And the ability to have all the tools at your disposal at the beginning is a blessing, it leaves it all up to your imagination.

I won't argue that it feels natural, because you certainly have more manual control over what you do... in the sense that most people seem to think only "Wii controls" could do, but still.

I wish the camera was pulled back five feet at least. Yeesh.

It has nothing to do with 'wii controls'. Making the flick it move to do a kickflip is alot more natural than Ollie with X and quickly press right A

I think the Tony Hawk series got progressively worse after THPS2, and by leaps and bounds with THUG1&2. While Project 8 and this new game are going in the right direction, when I play the new demo, it just feels...old. It feels like the same exact game I was playing back in 1999.

In my eyes, it's no contest that Skate bests the Hawk series.

The only skating game I ever bought was THUG and that pretty much satisfied my curiosity...forever.

I gave the demo a chance though and I found it to be "alright." The rigging system is pretty nifty and adds some pretty cool creativity to the game, which will make for some cool vids, too bad they didn't let us really explore it in the demo though. Nail-the-Grab is also an infinitely useful ability, but it's just not enough to make the game feel fresh.

In the end, after about ten minutes I found myself playing with the rag doll physics and watching my skater tumble down stairs and splat on the ground from 50 foot drops.

You know whos to blame. Activision. Same lame ass graphics for characters no options, sorry ass controls. EA has set Skating to a new prescident online just off the demo its self. I cant go back to THPS anymore, just horrible! Anyone notice how dark there demo was as opposed to SKATE!

In tha Thumb Baby!

I feel that skate. is a more gratefieng experience than any TH game.

Didn't the last game get a lot of criticism for over using the bright shiny gloss effect on everything (I don't know the technical term)? Maybe they tried to overcompensate.

What I couldn't get over was how huge their mouths were, I was expecting that Rigger guy to try and eat my head.

Tony Hawk 3 was good.

Gamespot gave Skate a 7.5. That means: ROFLAMLAOMLAMOROFLMALOMAL

That's why i don't bother with reviews so much.
Skate is at least a 9.
THPS will always hold a special place in my heart, but skate just competely murders it and pisses on it's lifeless corpse.
After raping it.
And setting it on fire.

Needless to say, i'm not going back.

i downloaded the demo but haven't tried it yet. is it better then P8?
