Toys R Us declares bankruptcy

They were talking about this on the TODAY show this morning....they showed a clip with the CEO talking about reshuffling things and working on keeping the "brand" alive for future generations. So it sounds like they aren't talking about totally disbanding the stores and getting rid of everything at this point.

What's interesting is they're the only specific toy store I can think of anymore. You'd think they'd embrace that.

I get Walmart and Target edging in on their turf but still Toys R Us is still where you need to go to find some greater variety and harder to find items.

It would be mega sad if they can't survive. In my youth I bought a ton of stuff there

Toys R Us always seemed overpriced to me.

If I need to find something for my niece I just get it from Amazon.

Amazon and the internet in general are partly responsible for Toys R Us' bankruptcy. You don't have to read any articles to know that will be cited as the main cause despite the fact these days kids are more likely to have an electronic toy (phone, game console, etc) than a toy.

Still sad to see Toys R Us is at this point. If I had a reason to go in there and buy something I definitely would.

Toys R Us is where my mom got me toys as a kid. It would be a special treat to go there and walk the isles as a child. The only other place was KB Toys.

My childhood just got ice-picked in the crotch. Damn. :csad:

They're not going anywhere right now. This is just to restructure debt.

Millennials are just the worst. :argh:

Man that place was my jam when I was a little Kidd. It was like a trip to mecca for me. We didn't have one in my town so we would drive 30 mins over to Lakeland then I would beg my dad for everything in almost every aisle.

Damn. :csad:

Save our Top Shops!! We need them much more now than we ever did as kids.

That was my biggest gripe with Toys R Us, the prices. When I used to collect Star Wars action figures (the line starting in '95) their prices were usually $1 to $2 more per figure when compared to Target or Walmart. The only reason I got any there was because they were just another source for them. At least their prices werent as bad as Kaybee toy stores :oldrazz:

god I miss Kay Bee Toys :(

I miss the good old days where they sold DCAU figures and the early Star Wars and Harry Potter Legos.

Who remembers KB Toys? I miss that place!

Sigh, all my favorite stores are closing.

Same

Couldn't care less. As a kid, everything I wanted was ALWAYS out of stock there. I shed no tears.

Why are people blaming Amazon for Toys R Us bankruptcy?

Eh its a bit sad but ultimately no loss IMO. I used to love going there as a kid in the early 90s but I've been to a few a couple of times in the last 10-15 years and it definitely seemed like a shadow of its former self (or I just have my child rose color glasses on and it was always bad). Their stores seem like a ghost town and the employees don't seem to care much. Plus as others have said, they're overpriced.

Because internet businesses like Amazon are killing the brick and mortar businesses. Usually it's cheaper to buy off the internet.

Toys R Us is the largest toy store in America....but statistics show that Amazon sells more toys than anyone else.

Kids that grew up only knowing how to buy stuff online aren't fazed.
