Because cultural norms remain relevant.

Besides, the discussion is a lot more civilized than it was a week ago.

No, I will be clearer, drop it. It's tiresome, circular and has nothing to do with a thread designed for users to review the film, not jab at each other repeatedly.

I also can't remember the last film I saw referencing jail bait and said minor giving handies to older men. Stay classy San Diego.

But...she was pretty hot.

The film was definitely the second best of the series. It felt more in tone with the first film, and shared many same moments for me in terms of essence. It was also needlessly long, kind of dragged a bit during the third act.

The only things I didn't like were the lack of transformers; I mean sure the other films didn't have many, but 5 autobots and two decepticons? I won't count the dinobots as they are very brief, but at least they kicked ass and even transformed! I also don't count the man made bots, as they were nothing but cannon fodder and a way to not have to render several different designs to save money in my eyes. Lockdown was ok, but the mystery of his back story, along with the creators, was both an intriguing tease and let down at the same time.

Still, plenty of action and eye candy. The humans were on par in terms of screen time and acting abilities as the previous, so no surprises there. I am however glad to see the potential for less human interaction/characters for the next film given how this one ends.

The one thing I did come out wondering was how parents felt about the Autobots being so angry in this one and repeatedly, and I mean beat you over the head repeatedly, screaming "you're going to die!", "I'm gonna kill you!", etc. It seemed excessive and unnecessary, like a angry Counterstrike nerd yelling over his mic due to losing to a hacker or someone with more skill.

Overall enjoyable nonetheless, and exactly what I expected. 8/10

It's just one person talking to himself at this point.

Speaks volumes about the matter when every post is a quoted response.
And here I thought the mod made it clear there would be no more jabs...

I saw it today and really enjoyed it, nobody shoots action on Bay's level and I do love his military porn fixation. :D He shoots EVERYTHING to looks sexy and stylish, hell he even made living on a dilapidated farm look stunning! :funny:

I thought Cade was a very likable lead character, Tessa and Shane were fine, Prime was imperious, Hound was straight out of the gruff 80's sidekick mold and Drift was slick! Stanley Tucci and his smokin' hot Asian assistant were also a lot of fun.

On the bad guy side of things I thought Grammer did a great job as the embittered Agency man and Lockdown was a fantastic creation, Bay introduced him and showcased him brilliantly and I'd rank him as one of the best sci fi movie villains in years.

The humour in this one for me mostly hit the right notes and I was actually sorry to see Lucas get fried so early. Wahlberg played up the protective Dad stuff well and I enjoyed his interactions with "Lucky Charms" as well as his more serious scenes with Optimus.

One aspect I wish we'd seen more of was Cemetery Winds, it was a fantastic concept, a Black Ops unit set up to hunt Autobots and I'd like to see it delved into a bit more.

The film is overlong as Bay crams in about 15 movies worth of money shots but the action is the best in the series so far, with highlights being the chase/escape from Cade's farm, Optimus riding Grimlock into battle, and my personal favourite, Cade taking out the robo hyenas as he, Tessa and Shane stand on the equivalent of the Temple of Doom rope bridge above Chicago!

Overall a rollicking good time and a big, fun summer blockbuster.

8.5/10

I finally saw it yesterday and really enjoyed it too.

Lockdown was a fantastic villain and the human characters weren't annoying at all.

Laughed at the 'smooching' scene with Cade and Optimus, ''Yeah, I went through that with Bumblebee.''

^Good reviews guys, it amazing to me how polarising these movies are. I think the people going in knowing what they are going to get seem to be the ones that end up happy with the end result.

Honestly, aside from the first one, they are bad movies, however, they are fun & entertaining.

It's kind of my guilty pleasure, and I just got out of the movie theater and I keep thinking "is there a screenwriter somewhere who could write a Transformers script that would be considered as a legitimately GOOD screenplay", and I just don't know.

They try, god knows they try to inject some "drama" in it, like the first 20 minutes of the movie, but it comes across to me as cheesy, very cheesy, but I appreciate the intent, I like Cade, Wahlberg is such a likable (imo) presence, Reynor & Peltz did fine really, I kind of miss Shia to be honest, his goofy act is always fun for me to watch.

They kind of overplay the whole overprotective dad idea to the point where it kinda gets creepy in a way, just a bit, but it makes for funny moments. Overall, the movie shows the humor you expect from a Michael Bay movie, not subtle, kind of crude at times.

I keep laughing seeing how Bay manages to sex up Peltz who's 19 but looks younger imo, those glory shots, her being dressed kind of like a ****, I'm not gonna complain about it but it feels kind of wrong at times.

It's overlong, I had a headache at the end, but that's endearing at the same time, it's Bay, he's overkill, he overdoes it but yet I keep going back, Nolan said he loved his movies, I can understand why.

Many people do not understand the level of skill, especially technical & the vision you need to do those Transformers movies. Sure, there's ton of CG (which I'll touch upon after), but being able to orchestrate all of this madness is nothing short of spectacular. Can you imagine being on a Transformers set? Not losing focus, knowing exactly what you're doing, and being like a kid having a ball blowing stuff up.

So yeah, that part is still astounding, regardless of the actual quality of the movies themselves. The action is as always spectacular, I could watch ten sequels, I wouldn't care, my usual taste is for indie movies & story driven movies, but I do enjoy, even love me some blockbusters, some that are legit good, others that are bad but still very enjoyable.

I think the best bit is definitely the Optimus Prime, Lockdown, Cade, Bumblebee battle, it felt very exciting, and I love that Cade is actually a doer with the weapon he gets, that's really cool stuff. Bee & Optimus Prime are always so appealing.

Visually, it looks great, that is if you like Bay's style with his trademark shots ( :D ), there are some really beautiful shots in there, especially at Cade's farm, the scenery can be pretty stunning at times with that beautiful sun setting. The CG is astounding, I kept thinking "how do they even do this stuff? there's so much going on, so many moving parts, literally thousands of metal pieces", I just can't comprehend that level of skill, it's fascinating.

I thought the musical score was overdone in the first 20 min with some dramatic tracks at time at the farm, but the song by Imagine Dragons is pretty appropriate & dope when the drums start hitting.

To finish, Tucci is a ton of fun in this & hams it up to 300 %, will go see the sequel (because you know there's gonna be one as long as it keeps making that much dough), although it's probably gonna be more of the same, I'm just wondering how much they can milk this before it just ends up being the same movie over & over again.

Just watched it last night... more of the same buy way too long!

The only thing that really bothers me with the four films is the autobot continuity... I mean, Optimus and Bumblebee are the only ones who appear in all the films... What about Hound, Drift and Crosshairs? Where they were in the previous films? And they're introduced like we know them. This happens also in ROTF and DOTM with the newcomers... I know they want to sell toys, but c'mon.

Michael bay does not really about THE TRANSFORMERS.

People who watch this movie need to keep an open mind.. this is not the same TF from 1,2,3.. if you notice the differences.. there is a looot of change... you can see they are approaching very close to what Transformers are suppose to be.. the Dinobots looked like Beast Wars.. its like all the things that make Transformers great and all the robots looked cool.. there was no goofy robots, all the autobots are capable one man army bad asses... and they have more human like faces that have expressions.. Optimus Prime face is clearer and better here.. you can see his eyes and expressions... if you notice the old transformers they dont look like robots, they look like pile of junks mashed together like previous movies.. am i the only one who noticed that they actually made the Transformers close to cybernetic machines and humanoid compartments? This movie had the best robot design of the Transformers compare with all the Transformer series before.. if you guys didint enjoy looking at the robots, you all must be artistically ******ed not to appreciate the details of the robots...the makers clearly put tons of effort redesigning the Transformers..

^I do think AoE was very faithful to the comics, possibly the most faithful out of the movies yet.

The human made Transformers were very much reminiscent of the Pretender storyline from about 5 years ago, the major difference being in the comics humans piloted them.

Also the Dinobots being stuck on Earth for thousands of years is true to the more recent comics. And the likes of Drift and Lockdown are more recent TF creations.

i still can not belive that this was in the movie.

Optimus Prime: Legendary warriors, the powers that created us now want us all extinguished. We must join forces, or else we'll all be their slaves. So today you stand with us... or you stand against me. Optimus Prime: Only together can we survive! Let me lead you
Optimus : were giving you freedom.
Optimus: you defend my family or die

i enjoy Bay movies . but this is wrong on so many levels :lmao:

When the Quintessons capture Optimus Prime they should try him for war crimes.

Then find him guilty, the release him.

^I really didnt see what was so bad about it in the movie, Optimus was pleading with them to join him, they wouldnt, so he gave them an ultimatum, without them the Autobots would have lost and Optimus knew this.

lol. seriously that was a Schizophrenic line of dialogue. Prime made his big speech, and everyone figured the Dinobots would help since they were just freed and instead they were like "F- you dude." Then Optimus was like "F-me?, well forget what I just said, You'll fight w/ me and like it." the whole audience in the theater I was in was like huh?????, Whatever, this just looks badass. Yeah Optimus is riding Grimlock!!

he helps them out of Lockdowns prison.
he gives them the ultimatum which makes sense because they are out of the cage because of him.
so Grimlock of course attacks him since he just told him that if he is not on his side he is against him. thats almost exactly the same what Anakin told Obi Van hahahaha. while the trex is attacking OP OP is screaming to him that he is giving them freedom and that only together they can survive.

so when Grimlock is on the ground OP walks to him and threatens to kill him.if he doesnt defend him he will die. he puts the sword on his head. he even moves the sword on his neck so that sparks fly. this is a direct psychopathic threat.

they are free because of Optimus but only as long as they do what papa Optimus Prime says. if not they will die.

this wouldnt be a problem if the dinobots had more screentime in the middle of the movie and they would been introduced like wild animals. it was obvious what the scene was meant to be. Grimlock was like a wild bull or wild horse. maybe something similar to Jake Sully in Avatar and the red flying dragon.

hey enjoy in summer a Bay movie. but you can not have this kind of lines from a hero in a movie like this. just because it sounds badass that Peter Cullen says '' you will defend my family or you will die'' that doesnt meant it OK to use it in a movie.

^Again I really didnt have a problem with it, it was ultimatum time or the Autobots were dead, Prime aint gonna let that happen.

The problem is he is supposed to be this great noble leader. What makes it worse is one of the Autobots is like "What a guy! As if you wouldn't follow him!"

Well no, actually. He's a prick. The Dinobots are basically forced into serving Optimus. He enslaves them, he doesn't grant them freedom. What is his famous quote? "All sentient beings have the right to freedom" or something.

And there was a scene earlier in the movie at the campsite in the desert where Hound and the other one was fighting (was it Bee? can't remember exactly) and Optimus does nothing. That was a great opportunity for him to show some real leadership qualities and tell them to sort their acts out.

At least he doesn't executed fallen, unarmed foes begging for their lives or threaten to rip off enemies faces in this one, i guess.

While this movie was definitely not good, it was kind of refreshing.

The lack of Sam "No no no no no" Witwicky... and indeed all the other human characters from the previous movies, went a long way.

The human characters in this movie are almost tolerable, though they do get annoying a few times, and you wonder why the Yeagers kept showing up. To the previous' movies' credit, they generally had a reason for keeping Shia Labeouf's character around.

That being said, this movie had some good ideas, but it had too much going on, and too many villains. I think if they had just focused on one idea (Megatron tricking humans into rebuilding him, for example, or Optimus finding out about his past), the movie would have probably been much better of. Or at least, an hour shorter, and with a better focus. It did not have to be this long.

The movie had trouble juggling all the plot lines and villains, and in the end, Galvatron (btw, why does he call himself a name a human focus group came up with?) who is built up quite a bit... just sort of wonders off.

I will say that I enjoyed Tucci and Grammer's performances. The latter is probably the strongest villain this franchise has had since Megatron in the first movie (before he became a zombie).

I would point out that this movie has serious continuity problems, and plot holes, but it's a Bay film, so I doubt anyone cares.

Overall, probably the 2nd best Transformers movie.

So ranking: Not good, but better.

I finally saw this about a week ago..

It's not better than the firs movie (which is, for me, the best TF movie so far), but it is on par with the third.

Good stuff:

- Action and special effects (duh :D)
- Lockdown is cool, Hound is cool
- Story is OKish (by Transformers standards :))
- Open ending
- Human characters are OK
- Humor is OK
- The twist that the Cube Transformers revered as a "sacred" relic was just a tool of some other lifeforms that built Transformers... Quintessons! Oh, yeah!

Bad stuff:

- It is too long. Some of the action should have been cut, because it tends to be tedious after a while
- I didn't like new "knightly" robot designs as much as older "mangled machinery" ones from previous movies which I consider awesome
