Optimus ain't a 'bad guy' in the literal sense in this. Odds are Quintessa did something to his programming while taunting him about the destruction of Cybertron. He's most likely being manipulated in some way. Hence the purple eyes, red paint and his line in the first trailer with a conflicted/devastated tone: "Forgive me".

Also, why wouldn't Megatron be in this film? Have you seen Age Of Extinction?

Odds are Megatron will ally with the humans and Autobots against Quintessa/plus whoever else they face off against, but in a "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" scenario. Legitimely doubt he'll turn to the good side, this would just be a temporary truce for him due to a bigger threat.

I think TheVileOne is asking from a narrative point of view.

I know, but I think he's getting confused with some of these assumptions he's making.

It's obvious they're not revealing a whole lot for a reason. We don't know the context of how these things will occur until the movie comes out.

When Megatron and Optimus are fighting Optimus has his purple eyes, I think Megatron is actually trying to stop Optimus doing something dastardly here. I find this interesting personally.

Incomprehensible dialogue. Transformers with no agency and just gimmicks. A bunch of annoying characters. Overwrought plot. Parts of it looked like Independence Day 2.

I think that was done to throw us off. Bay has done stuff like that before. He swore Megatron wasn't in ROTF, and he swore Shockwave was the bad guy in DOTM. I think he has done the same there.

Yes and I'm not wrong. It looks like he gives himself over to the process like Griffith in Berserk when he meets the God Hand.

Yes. He became Galvatron and he was still a bad guy. So what is going on here? What is his purpose in the plot now? Why is he fighting Optimus who now is trying to destroy Earth?

Why would he ally himself with the humans? That makes no sense. If Optimus was destroying Earth to potentially restore Cybertron, that's right along with Megatron's MO. What does he gain from helping humans and fighting Optimus Prime to protect the Earth?

Vile, those questions of yours are something that will most likely be answered within the film's full context.

The promos obviously aren't gonna fully lay out why a character is doing this or that. You can only speculate at this point.

You know, I still remember Bay from the Rock era and I'm still waiting for that new blockbuster of his that will bring back that awesome sauce he was able to delived back in those days. And hopefully after the writers room endeavour we'll get very good, finally watchable, Transformers story, with those great visuals form the trailer, so yea, even if I rather loathed all the previous Transformers, I'm really looking forward to this one. And mainly because of this trailer.

Last trailer almost made me want to see this. But sounds like it is more of the same confusing jumbled mess.

As someone who likes these movies, even if a script turns out to be good Bay will leave his fingerprints all over it to an unrecognizable degree.

Here's about what I can tell from the plot.

The Knights of the Round Table were at one point allied with the Transformers. There's some sort of magical crest that involves the two parties.

So somehow the world is in peril because of the Transformers or some such?

Cade has been hiding out in a junkyard and giving sanctuary to what's left of the Autobots. All Transformers and Autobots are seen as enemies of the American government and rest of the world.

The Isabella Moner kid is an orphan who was living out on her own in the aftermath of a battle, might've been Chicago. She protects some kids who were trespassing and checking out the rubble, and then they are all rescued by Cade. The government has their own robots patrolling these areas. They are basically the Gekkos from MGS4.

The pursuit by the government forces eventually brings Cade and the kids into contact with Cogman, who works for Anthony Hopkins character. Hopkins is last surviving member of the secret order of the Knights of the Round Table and the Transformers from medieval times.

So something about a prophecy about the fate of the world, the Last Knight, and whatever. It seems Optimus has come back to try and terraform Earth into Cybertron. Not sure if that's what it is. But that's what it looks like. Transforming Earth into Cybertron.

Still images from trailer 3. "The maker" definitely has some quintesson inspiration. The tentacles coming out of her back side as she floats. Obviously some liberties taken though as all characters in the Bay-verse have gotten.

Yeah it will be interesting seeing Megatron on the side of good for once. Personally I love it in comics and CBMs when they flip characters roles like this.

They aren't significant characters. Hot Rod is nothing more than goofy tertiary comic relief. He's a French Autobot who doesn't like being French or really know how to speak French.
