Ed Skrein Is The New "Transporter"

By Garth Franklin Saturday February 8th 2014 08:24PM
Former "Game of Thrones" star Ed Skrein will take over the role of Frank Martin in the $30 million reboot of the "Transporter" franchise at EuropaCorp.
Jason Statham played the role in the previous three films, while Chris Vance took on the role in the TV series version. This proposed new trilogy of films features a younger Frank Martin which 30-year-old Skrein will now take on.
Though he's had roles in films like "Ill Manors," "The Sweeney" and "Piggy," Skrein is probably best known for his work in the role of Tyroshi warrior and Daenerys love interest Daario Naharis in the most recent season of "Game of Thrones".
Skrein played the role in the final three episodes of the third season, but isn't returning to the role for the upcoming fourth season. Michiel Huisman is now taking over that part.
The story returns the action to the French Riviera and is also set to explore Martin's relationship with his father. Bill Collage and Adam Cooper ("Accepted," "Tower Heist") penned the script while Camille Delamarre ("Brick Mansions") directs and filming begins in June.
EuropaCorp CEO Christophe Lambert says: "We searched everywhere to find a fresh face who had the potential to become an action movie star and we’ve found the right match with Ed Skrein, who’s not only a great actor but also has enough charisma and physical stamina to play Frank Martin with brio".

I dont see the point of this at all. Statham is the reason why i like the transporter.

So has the TV series been cancelled? This is Statham's franchise, no one is interested in seeing anyone else in the role.

Was the show even on TV?

I remembered it was going to air, but then it got delayed..and then vanished.

Statham was like the main draw for these. And lets be honest, the sequels weren't all that great to begin with.
The first one is nice though.

I didn't like the first one but I liked Transporter 2. Never seen 3.

It definitely aired on HBO Canada.

Perhaps, instead of rebooting the series, just continue it with a new Transporter? Have Statham pass the torch in a few early scenes and then let the new guy take over. Not every series needs a reboot.

No Jason turned down Transporter 4 for..The Mechanic 2..awful.

They do this all the time with average to not good action movies. Especially in the 80s and 90s

Much rather see a movie all about the transporter chief on the Enterprise than a reboot of the Statham movies.

Wow, a re-boot only about 10 years after the original? I can understand it for comic book properties as they have lots of stories to draw from but The Transporter? Totally unnecessary.

Well... I'm glad Skrein is still getting work after getting the boot from Game of Thrones for God-knows-what-reason.

Still... seriously?

I like the movies as rentals. They're not theater quality to me but I doubt I'll even rent them without Statham in them unless the reboots have a really good reason to watch them.

I agree he is the sole reason a lot of people see those films, I watch it to see Statham kick ass not because I am interested in a character study and the relationship the character has with his dad.

this is a Staham reboot. he is the movie .

I can take or leave Statham, as he's like Sly and Arnie in that you know you're basically getting a variation of themselves in whatever role they play, but this franchise is pretty much his Rocky or Terminator...no one else would fit.

Wow I had no idea Daario Naharis from Game Of Thrones was the guy who forced a drug addict to prostitute herself because he though she stole his cell phone from Ill Manors :wow:

The first installment of EuropaCorp‘s rebooted Transporter franchise, The Transporter Legacy, will be released in North America via EuropaCorp USA on March 6. Pic is in production with Camille Delamarre (Brick Mansions) directing from a script by Exodus scribes Bill Collage and Adam Cooper. EuropaCorps’ Luc Besson (Taken and Transporter franchises) and Fundamental Films’ Mark Gao are producing. This is the first EuropaCorp deal stemming from the joint distribution agreement reached with Relativity in February. Under that pact, EuropaCorp titles will be released under EuropaCorp USA and Relativity titles under Relativity.

Set in the criminal underworld of France, Transporter Legacy stars Ed Skrein (Game Of Thrones, Northmen: A Viking Saga) as Frank Martin (The Transporter) who will deliver anything for a price. He eventually crosses paths with Anna (Loan Chabanol), the leader of a group of deadly assailants, who decides Frank is the man to take down a group of ruthless Russian human traffickers. Anna holds Frank’s father (Ray Stevenson) for ransom to ensure his cooperation and both of them are forced to team up with Anna to bring the villains to justice. Radivoje Bukvic (Taken), Gabriella Wright, Anatole Taubman (Taken, Quantum Of Solace) and Tatiana Pajkovic also star.
EuropaCorp is coming off the successful debut of Besson’s Scarlett Johansson starrer Lucy which grossed over $43 million in its debut weekend in North America.
