Just got back from a midnight showing....it definitely delivered. 2008 has had some fantastic films, and make no mistake, Tropic Thunder is one of them. This movie fires and never misses. Hilarious from the get go, literally the very start is just pure brilliance.

I love this movie to death. I will spill my seed on the DVD cover.

I work at a movie theater and we had an employee preview last night of Tropic Thunder. Let me say that I really, really enjoyed it and found it to be one of the funniest movies that I've ever seen.

Robert Downey Jr. and Tom Cruise are the showstealers in my opinion. Tom Cruise especially. I know he receives a lot of flack for his beliefs in an alien religion and believe me I don't agree with a lot of his beliefs, views, and find him a bit out there. But this performance made me respect him because he went all out and shows he doesn't take himself that seriously.

him swearing and dancing just wasn't that funny. It was probably the weakest part for me. It was still good but you can only go to the well so many times. Even Bill Hader who was great in a Pineapple Express was left with nothing even with more screen time than he had in Knocked Up.

The cameos in this film were excellent.

RDJ is the Heath Ledger of this movie, when he's not onscreen you're wanting him to come back. Plus he escapes into the role like Ledger. But I'm not saying Oscar nom. I'll say Golden Globe in a Comedy/Musical nom.

Stiller thought of the idea back in the 80s and thankfully he never used it for The Ben Stiller Show. Look for the show's Die Hard 12 trailer parody to get the sense of what the they're going for.

Pineapple Express had more one liners, and laughs but Tropic Thunder is pretty consistent with the laughs, has a couple of twists and leaves a smile on your face throughout. Overall I would say Thunder is the better film, simply because its a movie that I would see again and again. The laughs may not be as hard after multiple viewings but its still entertaining with the action and characters.

Its nice to see something somewhat original in theaters, it takes the rescue mission formula and gives it something fresh. Its the third best movie of the summer after TDK and WALL-E.

I was planning on seeing this from the very first trailer...and now based on all the above posts...i am really really excited to see this! Funniest movie ever made? We'll see...but with positive word of mouth i think this one now has the potential to make wedding crashers numbers...but...thats shooting too high so maybe taladega nights numbers...it could open with around 35m on the 3day with 20 million from wed-thurs. giving it 5-day 55m. And i'm shooting lower than I originally projected so lets see

I laughed alot, but the laughs thinned out as it went on. I think Pineapple Express is better though.

And I'm sorry, I hated Tom Cruise; he wasn't funny. He was just loud. Rap Music isn't funny.

I don't get the controversy either. The use of ****** is to critique the actors who played ******s to win awards like Oscar; it is not used to make fun of people who have mental disabilities. But I guess they aren't interested to find that out, because they just want free publicity that comes with their protests.

It's just like the gay mafia who protests a Kevin Smith film. Kevin Smith who is the brother of a married homosexual whom Smith is very supportive of. But GLAAD still took hush money from Smith to shut up. Screw them.
