These reviews bode extremely well. I'm getting very excited to see this!

Downey was definitely the best thing in the movie. He has catapulted himself from an actor I don't consider too often, to one of my favorite actors just over the course of ONE summer. It's funny, but I thought he did a better job here, than in Iron Man. I was watching it thinking, " this guy is giving an Oscar worthy performance, in a completely silly comedy."
My second favorite thing about the movie.....Mr. Cruise. That was hilarious.

for those who have seen it should i watch tropic thunder tonight?

This was a solid movie, but not as great I expected it to be. Many of the jokes were hit and miss, and some got old. The middle of the film was especially dragging but luckily picked up in the end. 7.8/10

They share the glory in my eyes, but most of the credit goes to Stiller, Therioux, and Cohen for writing such a great script.

I thought it was good not great...made me laugh but then didnt...Tobey + Downey = Hilarious...
I prefer Pineapple Express though :ninja:

The best part of the movie was
seeing Stiller running back to the chopper with the kid stabbing him in the neck, then throwing the kid into the river, then the kid pouting :woot:
.

The rest of the movie was meh. Though I liked the agent talking with the Tom Cruise character. I'm sure Hollywood is really like that in a lot of ways.

My favorite part of the movie was the "lead farmer" line.
I couldn't enjoy the end cause it brought the ending of epic movie's to my head. And i didn't even see Epic Movie, I just had the misfortune of turning on HBO at the wrong time.

Loved this movie...one of the funniest and original movies I have seen in a while. The cast was great and all the cameos were funny as hell...except for Tom Cruise. It was funny at first but it got old towards the end pretty fast. Go see this movie, it is well worth it.

Was there anything at the end of the credits???

nope, and my favorite bit is when Downey and Stiller are talking about how Stiller really felt '******ed' when he was making Simple Jack.

Downey "you went full ******, you never go full ******."
:hehe:

I am SO getting this on DVD :woot:

Here you all go...made something for you all!

I heard there's a scene in this movie where they cross a lake and the black guy starts drowing then Downey Jr. looks at him and tries to pretend he's drowning too. Is this true or not because that would be a hilarious and incredibly racist scene.

I don't remember seeing that scene in the movie.

It wasn't in the movie but damn that would have been hilarious.

Also, Stiller kicking the cup out of the guy's hand and then kicking him back and apologizing wasn't in the movie.

'You make my peepee maker tingle' wasn't in the movie either now that I think about it.

if they have a directors cut of this film it's probably going to offend 60% of people, but it'd be awesome.

saw it last night...it was really funny, but a little hyped, and if you have to see it for one reason...RDJ! This is one of the best performances of the year...A golden globe for best comedic performance might be in order...other than that...it played out like other ben stiller stuff...but i liked the freedom he had here with the humor...simple jack was hilarious...
the tobey mcguire cameo was hysterical
but the big talk about Tom Cruise wasn't all that great...it was ok and nice to see him doing comedy like this...but I guess he knows how to play a bigtime studio producer better than anyone and thats why insiders in the bizness actually thought it so funny.
7.5/10 ...about the same as Pineapple Express...seemed like these films were gonna be new comedy classics and then just barely delivered...but still very very funny. I'm not sure what was missing I just know something was....like a moment where i needed to catch my breath from laughing so hard...and there wasn't one.

Unfortunately the movie's first two day BO estimates are kind of low for the first two days, about $11 million. Kind of scary considering that PINEAPPLE EXPRESS made over that amount in one day, and Tropic Thunder costs about $90 million.

Keep in mind Pineapple Express has been frontloaded due to the huge fanbase of Apatow and Crew while Ben Stiller is more of a household name so this could have stronger legs and thus end up being more successful, we won't know anything till after the first and probably second weekend.

I thought the movie was hilarious, however the movie for me is perhaps somewhere between rental and buy. The reason being is the schitzofrenic nature of the film in that it couldn't decide being improv/skit (Step Brothers) comedy movie or story/comedy (Knocked Up). Like it sets up characters and character arcs, yet it doesn't seem to follow through with them or they are interspliced in awkwardly. Which leads to a film that feels like its dragging even though its funny because the audience is bewilder at what there watching or where it is going. So I'd rate it a 6.5 or 7/10... Tom Cruise was definitely the best part of the movie.
