The idea for Tropic Thunder came to Stiller years ago while making his major film debut in Spielberg’s 1987 WWII drama Empire of the Sun: “It seemed like all my friends – almost every actor in Hollywood but me, in fact – were going off and doing these Vietnam War films. They would go to these fake boot camps for a few weeks to prepare, and then come out talking about how grueling and intense it was, how they all bonded like a real Army platoon. I just found something hilarious about these self-involved actors seeing themselves as heroes.”

Its weird I remember watching Empire Of The Sun a couple years ago having not seen it for a few years and noticing Ben Stiller hasn't aged since 1987!

He looks younger than Christen Bale thses days and Bale was 13 when in empire of The Sun.

'What is this? A center for ants? How can we be expected to teach children to learn how to read... if they can't even fit inside the building?'

hehe.

'It has to be... THREE times this big!'

Classic.

:lmao: I'm crying a little this made me laugh so hard.

Man this film was so hilarious. I got to see a Advance Screening at Comic Con. It as great film all around. Funniest of the year

Awesome movie. The original intro for Comic Con was fantastic. Stiller, Downey Jr., and Black arguing over who the biggest fanboy is.

The surprises and cameos in the movie are hilarious.

"Although nowhere near as sustained or inflected, Cruise's extended cameo as a Hollywood Satan is the other highlight. Looking uglier than one could ever have imagined possible, Cruise has been transformed into a bald-pated, hirsute, porcine, sulfur-mouthed terrorizer who rules the roost from a high-tech bunker. At any greater length, the characterization would have to be deepened or it would become tiresome, but Cruise gives it an unexpected spin that makes this a wonderful match with his ferocious supporting turn in "Magnolia."

At Comic Con, I actually got a chance tp see a screening of Tropic Thunder, and it was hilarious. I was one of those people who wasn’t completely aboard this film, having been burnt from Ben Stiller countless times over the past few years. The Red band trailer got me very excited, but some of the other marketing made me wonder if all the funny bits were contained in the restricted clip. Not the case at all. The film is a great popcorn movie that everyone is going to love. The way the characters are introduced at the beginning of the film is genius, and Tom Cruise gives a career saving performance that EVERYONE will be talking about.

Too bad that got out. That was one of the big surprises in the movie. Along with two other actors.

I think most people that followed the film knew he was in it. I think I remember the others.

Every year, there are one or two comedic movies that could be surprise hits.

This one and Pineapple Express could be those.

And because Nick Nolte is in this movie, could this be his comeback film?

I just saw this last night at a 'sneak peek' showing...

N O S P O I L E R S

It was very funny, but if your epileptic, don't see this movie. It starts off VERY quickly with practically no character developement at all, and once it gets going, it's gone. It seemed too overwhelming.. like just too much stuff going on at once, you could barely hear the dialogue at some points(especially Downey Jr's), and there some scenes where you'll just be completely bewildered as to what just happened.

Anyways, it took me 3/4's of the movie before I realized that this guy was Tom Cruise, he did an excellent job playing a jewish? *****e bag who only cares about money. And Lord are his arms fat hairy logs... good lord. :hehe:

Everything I said is 100% true. Many of you will agree with me on what I said above, I'm pretty sure. Like I said, THIS MOVIE IS VERY FAST PACED.

7/10

I saw the movie last night at a free screening and here's my short but oh so sweet spoiler free review:

It's an good movie...not a great movie. It's an unfocused and fast paced movie with rapid fire laughs. There are a lot of really really good laughs throughout the movie, though some parts and plot points are kinda lame. If it weren't for Robert Downey Jr., the movie would almost be worthless. Tom Cruise's cameo is epic and awesome. It's nice to finally see the guy not take himself so damn seriously. There are some other great cameos from other stars in there as well. I'm not sure if I'll be buying it, I need to see it again to judge that.

All in all I was hoping for it to be better, but it was still a blast...and Tom Cruise has one of the best lines I've ever heard in this movie:

"Really? How about you take a step backwards...and literally F#CK YOURSELF IN THE FACE!!!"

This movie gets a solid 74% from yours truly.
