Twilight

Rebooting Harry Potter is a stupid idea but at least I can see why WB is doing it because that still has a sizable fanbase and they think it's an easy cash grab. The Hunger Games franchise being dusted off feels like a tired cash grab but at least that's just a prequel. I feel like the only exposure Twilight has had in the past decade since the last movie came out was the predictable backlash on the internet when Robert Pattinson was cast as Batman ("EdWaRd cUlLeN cOuLd NeVeR bE bAtMaN!!1!"). Harry Potter aside, none of those young adult franchises' popularity level really endured beyond when their final movies were released. Some of them didn't even get that chance (Divergent says hi). Besides all that, what else really needs to be said with Twilight that wasn't already done with five movies?

Back in the day, popular mythology (e.g., Robin Hood, Zorro, Sherlock Holmes) might be revisited/remade every generation. However, that process seems to have accelerated. (Because... The internet? Shorter attention spans?) Arguably, it's different when a reboot is based on a specific set of novels. But quick reboots of (say) Twilight or Harry Potter aren't that different from quick reboots of (say) Spider-Man, Batman or Superman.

Comic book superheroes are a different beast. Spider-Man, Batman, and Superman have been rebooted countless times in various incarnations since they were created with no end in sight. Whereas in the Harry Potter and Twilight series, the characters went from point A in the beginning of the first book to point B at the end of the last book and that was it.

The Twilight movies are basically a big budget CW show, so I'm not surprised. This will probably be something like Riverdale or Teen Wolf.

The movies were not good, so maybe this could be better.:smirk:

- Twilight is a messy beginning film, with fun yet outrageous cinematography/directing by Hardwicke

- New Moon is a solid effort, fixed book issues, and decent commentary on depression...

- Eclipse fumbles any new Weitz good-will and doubles down on idiotic conflict

- Breaking Dawn I tries to get back to New Moon's characters, but is easily drawn out too much...

- Breaking Dawn II is pretty messy up until the fight, totally fails when one badass scene is accidentally a twist

...they're dumb fun. Highlights are easily the soundtracks (Paramore, Radiohead, Bon Iver), Stewart when they let her flex, and the cheese that Sheen brings.

Honestly, what I would do is these suggestions;

> don't play into the 'Edward or Jacob' battle, it's dumb [Edward or bust]

> make the conflict more political between the Vamps/Werewolves and the regions, hiding, etc.

> get goofy with the camera, have some flair with color though [sort of Hardwicke]

> tightrope between horror drama and camp [think True Blood earlier seasons]

> make the villains outside of Volturi stronger, larger stakes

> more flashbacks [Edward doing Dexter crimes in the 1900's is dope]

I haven't read the books, but know the gist of them from the films. You could really make these cook, even though the initial text isn't great.

Just to keep in mind this may not be a remake of the books. It could be something else based on the world.

Sources say Daly is working with Lionsgate TV to determine what the specific take on Twilight will be and if it will be a remake of Meyer’s books or a different offshoot.
