Universal Studios backlot burned down-king kong destroyed

The Florida Universal Studios was amazing when I went! I haven't been in about 10 years though.

I was last there about 3 years ago. One of our bags was stolen at at Islands of Adventure, so I've kind of soured on the place a little. We got most of it back, but they spent $500 off one of my friend's credit cards and stole the digital camera that had all the pictures of their kids at Disney World. :cmad:

I skipped US when I was in Orlando last December, but I'll check it out again once they open the Harry Potter section.

And they supposed have taken out the "Back to the Future" ride...which I am very upset about! :cmad:

Yeah, they replaced it with a Simpsons ride. And thanks to the whole stolen bag saga, I had to skip that the last time I was there so I never got to ride it one last time before it closed. :csad:

Wow that sucks! I'm sorry to hear that! I can definately understand why your liking the place may have soured.

The Simpsons??? Ugh... :csad:

Yeah, it definitely sucked. They make you put your stuff in lockers before most of the big rides, and my friend's backpack wasn't there when we got back. :cmad:

We had a 2-day pass, but we didn't bother going back the 2nd day. And we did manage to get most of it back, but still...we were done with US for that trip.

The Simpsons??? Ugh... :csad:

I love The Simpsons, but not enough to sacrifice the BTTF ride for!

the BTTF ride sucked anyway.. sure its a nice novelty ride that's sad to go (like ET) but its very outdated.... and not really even enjoyable anymore

At least you were able to get most of your stuff back! That's good.

I feel the exact same way.

This is the official report we were given today.

On New York Street they were putting shingles on a roof using a blow torch and somehow that made smoldering cinders that eventually caught on fire. Kong, New York Street, Courthouse Square and (sorry all) the Clock Tower are gone.

But before you feel too bad, remember that those things were all replacements anyhow since the 1990 fire burnt down the originals.

It really did burn down quite a bit of the studio. Imagine working one day, and then seeing a spring of fire and screaming. Crazy... I feel bad for everyone.

That is just so sad. :csad:

actually that isn't 100% accurate... yes what burned, burned.. but the clock tower did not. I highlighted it in blue. (if you want to see for yourself, just look at the buildings across from it, and the way the lawn runs... the clock tower is fine.

Back to the Future is my favorite movie. The Clock Tower was the most important part so I'm glad it's ok.

I work AT the park, spideyboy, official word is that the clock tower is down

damn shame about the Clock Tower but hey they are rebuilding it :)

Can someone explain to me why it seems logical to heat shingles on a roof with a god **** blowtorch????????????

Idiots! :cmad:

The roofs are tarred. You heat the shingles with the blowtorch, stick it in the tar, and it melts the tar so that the shingles stick. At least that is my understanding of it

this picture amusing. See the ruined houses at the bottom. That's not fire damage, that's the airplane crash set from War of the Worlds.

But isn't there any easier or safer way of doing it?
