is tom cruise playing a american who speaks german?

i dont understand why would they have an accent. when a guy is speaking in a different language he has an accent. this movie is an american movie. why would they speak english with an german accent? to remind people that its in germany?

I LOVED the graphic design titles in the trailer, but there were too many cuts for my liking. I got a bit dizzy watching that. And I still think that Tom Cruise doesn't really know how to play anyone but himself in his movies. You can always tell it's him because of certain mannerisms. But eh.

Someone on the AICN talkbacks pointed out the quick closeup shot of the mosquito being burned by a cigarette. Hopefully that wasn't an entirely CGI shot a la the bullet-in-the-eye shot in SR.

I disagree with the top part but the part bolded, i thought was one of the great little visual touches the film seems to have from the trailer.

In theory, they're speaking in German (in the film's universe).

Yeah, imagine if Desperado (in whom, in THEORY AGAIN, they're all speaking Spanish) had all of the character speak in American accents (I know, I know..Bandras and Hayak don't have one); it's distracting.

So yeah, its authenticity.

think about Kevin Costner's 'American' accent in Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves.

BTW, Cruise is speaking with a weird "German/American" dialect. If you notice, some of pronunciations are 'German' like, while it flows like an American accent.
