Oh for God's sake... who the heck speaks Latin this days??? It was ancient Rome for pete's sake... Cruise is a capable actor... the MI series showed he should be able to pull crap like that... give me a break... I can't laugh my ass off more at the concept of Cruise as a Nazi talking like he does in real life.

Errrr, you were talking accents not languages.

Which got me wondering...what does a Latin accent sound like anyway?

Spanish or Italian would be my guess.

Look at it this way, would Troy be any better if the actors all used the same accent as the guy who runs the kebab stall you go to after a night on the piss?

I can live with English accents... at least make a freaking attempt I mean damn... that's why when you do these films you fill your supporting cast with German actors... or actors who are at least European... which they have done to an extent... but the lead should be able to do the accent. I remember watching Enemy at the Gates... and I was so turned off that no one could do a decent accent... hell Ed Harris did a hapass German but it was better than nothing... you got nothing from everyone else.

the trailer might've been better if it didnt have the easyly recognizable Saw theme..

i found myself singing along lol

Singer haters should be in the thread in droves in a few minutes. The not speaking with an accent comment bother the **** out of me though, how is that any more believable when they'd still be speaking English in Germany?

I need to read more reviews, there are still some positive point about the movie.

Response to the earlier report:

Update: /Film commenter Cerisier points out that one should probably take the above anonymous sources with a pound of salt. I would wholeheartedly agree.

/Film commenter Emily directs us to The Independent, which has reports from screenings that took place on Saturday and Sunday. According to the article, the screening eliminated fears that Cruise would attempt a German accent and also garnered “shockingly positive” reviews. According to Steve Gaydos, executive editor of Variety:

All the buzz is that it’s pretty good…Von Stauffenberg is not a typical role for Cruise, but in the event, he is a terrific actor who has surrounded himself with some of the most talented people around.

In other words, Valkyrie certainly still has the potential to be a big hit. More reports from screenings as they roll in.

I am telling you guys... the lack of accents will bury this movie... I think Singer is done... I mean he's been working on this for like three/four years... and if this film turns out to be crap... good riddance to this guy because I don't see him recovering for a while. I'll reserve judgement until we get more critic though...

And as far as the "Heil Hitler" scene for those who read the article... not wanting to spoil anything... and I don't know what that scene is all about so I may be off... but if you are playing a Nazi and you can't do a "Heil Hitler" with authority for a freaking movie... cease to exist as an actor.... seriously. I know if I were being forced to do it... and if I were a Nazi in the first place... I'd do it to avoid getting a bullet in my head... or getting sent to the gas chamber.

Cruise over all has now become a parody in pop culture now. That doesn't surprise me. It's probably people just whiney about the too much hate Cruise receives. I think he's a great actor when given the right material. People always bash him for the scientology, which is strange, but who the hell cares about some one else's beliefs? Pointing that out for the sake of being funny isn't at all. It's getting tired and old.

This film looks great.

I don't mind the lack of accents honestly.

As for Tom Cruise, the man has proven to be a great actor over the years, yet since people hate his Scientology craze (which includes me) people now make fun of him and think he is crap. I'm sorry, but I can't agree with that. His personal life is his personal life, and I couldn't care less. But this guy has been in some great movies and given outstanding performances. See A Few Good Men, Born on the 4th of July, Jerry Maguire, etc. Tom Cruise can act, and all this Tom Cruise hate has gotten rediculous. Hate the man, not the actor.

I think this movie looks great and can't wait to see it personally. I thought SR was a piece of garbage, but my anger from that movie is not going to ruin this movie for me. Two entirely different projects.

Funny how some people ignore all the positive buzz (not to mention the post right above theirs reporting too not give to much credit to the laughable comments) but concentrate on one bad article which reads completely fishy to me.

They're probably just angry Superman fanboys pissed off at Singer for SR and try to be funny for taking shots at Cruise.

I think it looks pretty good as well, but it might get lost with all of the Oscar-buzz movies. The Curious Case of Benjamin Button comes out on the same day, and there's been talks of Oscar for it for weeks.

I'm going to see that movie also. I can't wait for either

I remember reading somewhere that Singer did try to incorporate accents into the film and he said it wasn't working out too well. So he decided to do away with them and film it as it is.

I'll be seeing this out of respect for Singer as a director(XMEN WAS MY LIFE FOR A WHILE before he took on supey) ore than my own distaste for Cruise's couch stomping weirdness. Don't let that stop you from seeing a good movie, people :word: Wear your shades to the theater for extra coolness. The reality is that Singer's super talented, and there are so few good movies out there these days worth the high price. At least we got some good ones out of the usual pile of garbage.

And don't tell batfans this because they're always touchy about anyone criticizing the slightest hair out of place, but I think this will be even better than the dark knight. But that's just my insignificant opinion.

That scoop article seems a bit suspect to me. I don't care for the way the movie looks but I still think that it's going to make over 100mil domestically. I don't think that it's as sure a thing as one would think but I'm still 75% confident that it is going to be another 100mil grosser for Cruise. Also I think that it will get good reviews mostly, hell they give anything that Singer does better reviews than his movies derserve, I don't see why this movie would be any different.

That's exactly what I mean. It's just one review, which doesn't really read as it would be written by a professional critic.

Sadly, but this review still has enough chances to shine and direct other critics against the movie, especially if most of them have serious issues with particular aspects of Cruise's personal life. That's a shame!

Yesterday when I watched Tropic Thunder for the first time, I saw Cruise's cameo and was pleasantly surprised. Just because he's gone off the deep end in his personal life doesn't mean that he hasn't got acting chops anymore. His was probably my second favorite character in the film.

That said, I'm quite excited for Valkyrie.

isn't that article about Valkyrie fairly old, and from some European gossip rag? I could have sworn I read that at the beginning of the summer?

I dont understand the hate for this movie, people complaining about accents and other silly stuff. i seen a show about this plot to kill Hitler on the History Channel a while ago, the movie looks very faithful to this tragic true story. Just think, a table leg ruined the whole thing.

^ My friend was telling me about that last night. I don't really wanna know though. I might wiki it or something. Or I'll just wait until the film comes out.
