Video Editing Software

what's the best programs/software out right now for video editing? Whether it's freeware or costs, I don't care.

the task i want them for is rather simple. I have a bunch of videos my Aunt would like me to convert to dvds from her camcorder tapes, however, some events are scattered across various tapes, some have awkward cutoff points etc.

i need a software where i can clip frames, create smaller segments (some i plan to upload to youtube or fb for family), so if anyone can direct me, that'd be fantastic.

I use Adobe Premiere Elements. You can export directly to youtube from the software, it's pretty easy to use.

Do you have a way of converting tapes to digital?

yeah i have a thing that hooks up the camcorder to the computer and it records it onto the harddrive
