So I have a JVC Everio Camcorder that records in HD, but I'm unable to view the videos from it on my PC, which is about 4 years old and running Windows Vista. They keep coming up as MTS files, and I think that's why I can't watch anything from it. Does anybody know a editing software programme that's available in the UK that I could use to either edit the MTS files as they are, or convert them into something I can use?

Thanks in advance.

I had the same camera as you did. I used Adobe Premiere Elements 8.0. It's kind of glitchy, but it works fine. Also, the software that comes with the camera will allow you to view those files.

As far as i know there are several freeware supports to convert .MTS video to other popular video formats; Handbrake and Freemake are all good selection, completely free and no other cost. Handbrake has both windows and Mac version, I have test Handbrake for converting a short .MTS video to mp4, it works well.

Though this is 2 years old and I'm probably replying to a post bump by a spambot, I do use Handbrake. It's not the most intuitive program but it works to compress video file sizes fairly well to the video quality once you get the hang of it.
