I got this email from a friend. I thought it was best to let everyone know.

This may be a hoax but not worth taking the risk
> PLEASE INFORM EVERYONE
> Emails with pictures of Osama Bin-Laden hanged are being sent and the moment
that you open these emails your computer will crash and you will not be able to
fix it!
> If you get an email along the lines of "Osama Bin Laden Captured"
> or "Osama Hanged" don't open the attachment.
> This e-mail is being distributed through countries around the globe, but
mainly in the US and Israel.
> Be considerate & send this warning to whomever you know.
> PLEASE FORWARD THIS WARNING AMONG FRIENDS, FAMILY AND CONTACTS:
> You should be alert during the next days:
> Do not open any message with an attached filed called
> "Invitation" regardless of who sent it.
> It is a virus that opens an Olympic Torch which "burns" the whole hard disc C
of your computer.
> This virus will be received from someone who has your e-mail address in
his/her contact list, that is why you should send this e-mail to all your
contacts.
> It is better to receive this message 25 times than to receive the virus and
open it.
> If you receive a mail called "invitation", though sent by a friend, do not
open it and shut down your computer immediately.
> This is the worst virus announced by CNN, it has been classified by Microsoft
as the most destructive virus ever.
> This virus was discovered by McAfee yesterday, and there is no repair yet for
this kind of virus.
> This virus simply destroys the Zero Sector of the Hard Disc, where the vital
information is kept.

 if I get these e-mails, can I just delete them? Or is that bad?

EDIT-- I just sent out some e-mails warning friends and family, copying+pasting the quote. Hopefully I'll remember about this and won't open any funny looking e-mails.

thank you!
i never open mail from people i don't know, but i sent this stuff out anyways cus you never know.
and plus, it seems like Osama's friends would be smarter and send viruses in porn email!!
i mean, all the business computers around the nation would crash with all the perverts at work looking at porn.

I'm pretty sure porn e-mail has viruses in it anyway...like porn sites. That's why you should only buy porno dvds and mags.

ohhh?
should i?
and i see that you're offline now... or did you just log out so that you could run to the store to buy this "clean magazine" porn?
ewwwww!!!

Have you checked "www.snopes.com"? The whole thing is a hoax. End of story.

Origins: The classics never go away, it seems, so just in time for the 2006 Winter Olympics someone has dusted off an old virus warning hoax (most commonly seen in its incarnation as the "[Virtual] Card for You" hoax) and reintroduced it as an "Olympic Torch" virus warning (also known as the "Invitation virus"). The same basic hoax has been circulating in various languages since at least 2000, with occasional changes along the way. No such (incurable) virus exists, has been identified by McAfee, or was reported on by CNN.

These emails are always a hoax.
People are too ****ing stupid to realise that though:cmad:

But what if it wasn't, and no one had warned you? Then you'd be sorry.

You didn't even read my first post did you?

Fair enough, it probably is a hoax. But I wouldn't even open an email with a title like "Osama Bin Laden Hung", even it is was from a friend.

Sad that it took six posts for someone to say this. Whenever these hoaxes get lip service like this it gives me some insight into how the trojans and virii that are dependent on social engineering actually work with a great deal of success.
