A lot of great films were ignored.

How could you prefer Benigni's performance over Spacey?

How could you prefer Benigni's performance over Spacey?

Benigni's performance was the perfection of romantic comedy and true drama. Spacey (as great performance it is) was pretty much standard.

And everyone is entitled to their opinions.

Oh I respect your opinion. Im just shocked by it.

Oh I respect your opinion. Im just shocked by it.

The same way I'm shocked how can people not think Titanic is the best movie ever made?

It's opinions. No need to comment on them when not necessary. Here people vote, and that's it. You vote your way, and I vote mine.

PS: I will count the votes the moment this thread get deserted (aka go to page 3-4) so vote now.

Dont take it personally, I mean no offence. My opinion is just SO different. Spacey gave one of my favorite performances of all time in American Beauty, and I REALLY dont think very much of Benigni or the movie. Again I respect your opinion, and Im not calling it wrong.

BTW, I love Titanic too.

Why create a thread thats bound to contain many differing opinions, only to then comment on how you find people who disagree with you funny? I think you will find a lot of people don't think Titanic is the greatest movie ever made (for me it wasn't even the best film of 1997 - as far as i'm concerned L.A. Confidential easily deserved the OSCAR for Best Picture that year).

I acknowledged it had the best score of the winners (though Horner's Braveheart score, which didn't win, is superior). But it was not the best movie of its year--that'd be LA Confidential--much less over five years.

maybe you should learn from........well....yourself

Well, all I said is my own opinion. For me it is shocking but I'm not trying to change anyone's mind. They are entitled to not like the movie.

Armored Avenger

Why create a thread thats bound to contain many differing opinions, only to then comment on how you find people who disagree with you funny? I think you will find a lot of people don't think Titanic is the greatest movie ever made (for me it wasn't even the best film of 1997 - as far as i'm concerned L.A. Confidential easily deserved the OSCAR for Best Picture that year).

I don't understand it, but I respect that. I didn't intend to offend anyone.

I understand perfectly...I LOVE a certain movie, and other people don't. There is nothing wrong with that.

But people have to be objective, at least. Don't vote for Titanic in the PB, Best Director and the majors if you don't like the movie, but I'm shocked how people seems not to at least accept the movie's technical dominance.

What normal man will vote other than Titanic in the Art Direction? I have watched the making of the movie and they build the entire ship as a set. THE ENTIRE SHIP. This is consider to date, the biggest set in movie history. And you don't vote for it?

When I said that I'm shocked at the Titanic hate, I didn't think of the fact that you don't like the movie itself. I was shocked how people don't at least admit that the movie's as technical brilliance.

The Oscar makes the same mistake very often. If hey don't like the movie (aka Writing, Directing, Acting) they snubbed it even if it had the best technical realization (aka Art, Costumes etc).

I know that a lot of people will jump at me for this comment, but I mean it.

Well, all I said is my own opinion. For me it is shocking but I'm not trying to change anyone's mind. They are entitled to not like the movie.

Armored Avenger

I considered Titanic for a lot of those awards and it just missed the cut on a few of them. Titanic was a technical achievement, but I seriously didn't think that their costumes were as good as Shakespeare in Love or the effects as good as Independence Day, etc. It had nothing to do with what I thought of the film as a whole. I judge each category by itself.

For example, I hated American Beauty as a film, but I acknowledge that Kevin Spacey gave the best performance of those we had a choice of.
