Voting movies 1-10...

Never been too amazed by SFX, SR as quite impressive, but the narrative, direction and performances were the bits that made me go WOW.

are u saying WOW as in wow that was bad, or wow thats good... cause i think SR deserves a 6-7...it was enjoyable, but not great, but also not bad...

no...im saying "an ok movie with great effects" is worth better than a 1. and a good movie with no effects is worth whatever it is worth. i just think effects do add to a movie...like what was said earlier...people are giving POTC3, SM3, and HP5 1's and 2's, and IMO thats crazy. you cant honestly say there wasnt enough enjoyable scenes in those movies to give it more than a 1.

Sm3 was somewhere between 2-3 I'd say. The SFX are not somerthing that determins it's quality to me.

What about evil dead? How do the effects affect your opinion of it?

I've give SR like a 6-7, which is twice as good as most movies at least.

SR was visually beautiful and had just great effects. It was the story that killed me. The performances were great from everybody but Brandon. They did have an A list cast because I personally love Spacey and Parker...The next movie should have everything in it to make Superman a heavy hitter once again.

ahh you got me there...

great post.

but saying a 1 out of 10 on some of these movies is like you saying a Steel, or Catwoman, is equally as good/bad as those movies...

1 covers films of varying quality, that are all below the "no cinematic merits" threshold.

Sorry but I didn't love SM3 either but it certainly doesn't deserve to be amongst Epic Movie or Monkeybone like I said in my other post...a 2-3 is ridiculous and more than likely just you being angry because something didn't go your way in the movie. Some people gave it a 1 because TEH VENIMZ died in 10 minutes...sorry but that is just dumb. The camera work, the plot, the fight sequences, the acting were better than that of a movie with 2/10 stars.

And I think the effects in Evil Dead were made to convey the tone and feel of the movie...quirky and offbeat.

May I ask you're favourite few films? And possibly why?

On the scale of movies quality overall, I would not let SM3 leap out of the 3 at the highest. Epic movie is below the threshold and gets a 1.

nice point. ill think of something clever eventually :oldrazz: .

im just going back to my main point that people underrate films incredibly toooo much...and as you put ...overrate them as well..which i completely 100% agree with.

I actually think that its difficult to rate a movie until months even years have passed from its release.

Too many suffer from cinema experience fever ... I know I do!

In the dark with a massive screen in front of you it is easy to get sucked into the ride ..... the real test is if you want to watch the movie again and again for years to come.

I don't think I will EVER rate a movie 10 simply because perfection does not exist .... and thats what a 10 is perfection.

I would give movies like Aliens/T2/Jaws a 9 because for the genre they belong to they are the best and have passed the test of time, and so on.

Interesting topic, I need sleep now, but I'll carry on discussing tomorrow evening, thanks guys.

This is indeed tough...and these are in no order because it would take me forever to rank them accordingly...

300
Casino Royale
SM2
Blazing Saddles
Monty Python and the Holy Grail
Matrix 1
Harry Potter 1,3, & 5(everyone's acting but the kiddies are great but I am a huge fan of the books so I let that slide)
Batman Begins
Austin Powers International Man of Mystery
POTC 1
V for Vendetta
Jurassic Park
Indiana Jones

Those are my top few...I am a huge fan of movies in my own era besides Monty Python and Blazing Saddles and I just cannot get into old movies before my time. Those movies I listed I can just watch and watch over and over again...

lol yea ill be around. this is one of the few topics that (so far) is actually being DISCUSSED. see you tomorrow.

Alright, i love the threads of voting how good a movie is...1-10..yes...

but does it not bother anyone that people will sit there a vote a 1? i mean comon. there is a handful, if that many, movies that deserve a 1. POTC: AWE, for example...10 people voted a 1. there is no way in hell anyone ACTUALLY thinks that, and if you say you actually think that, your a liar. the special effects alone deserve better than that. I just think people vote on comparison to what THEY WANTED TO SEE VS WHAT THEY SAW. which believe it or not, has a huge impact on one another. just because you go to a movie and didnt see what you wanted, does not mean its a 1, AKA, crap. maybe im the only one, im sure ill get flamed for this, but i think there is extremely immature voting on these polls, and i dont know about the rest of you, but when i look at a poll 1-10, it doesnt decide whether i see the movie, but its a factor. if i see 75% of the people voted a 5 out of 10, chances are i wont see it. but when i see 100+ people voting a 7 or above, and then see 15 people voting a 2 or a 1, its just ridiculous.

and yes i know i know, everyone has different taste, but voting a 1 out of 10 on some of these movies is just....stupid...

i guess thats just my opinion. whether anyone else agrees or not is on them...had to get it off my chest...

anyone agree?

Most people don't really rate films 1-10, they rate how much they enjoyed them 1-10.

Perfect statement. Although now it is indeed hard to know which movies will surpass that test of time.

the non-bolded ones i can agree are atleast 8's. but the bolded ones...id disagree...JP changes for me from time to time...but harry potter 1? Both Mel Brooks movies? cant agree there..and YES the "kiddies" are coming along...Harry Potter 6 will be terrific next november...and Harry Potter 7, IMO, is going to be the next billion dollar breaker...and i think it wont only break a billion...but will beat LOTR:ROTK.

Monty Python was not a Mel Brooks film. I just love the Monty Python team and they make me laugh every single time...sure there are no good cinematical merits in their film, same for Mel Brooks, but they did what they were meant to do...make me laugh and extremely hard at that. And like I said...I rate films on replay value and damn I can watch Monty Python all day and the brand of humor in Blazing Saddles isn't seen anymore because no one can take a joke without wanting to sue. JP is just an all around great movie IMO...comedy, gore, action, suspense, horror...it had everything...plus I love dinosaurs!

And I also have high hopes for HP 7...see my avatar for further confirmation.

The performances in Superman Returns made you go wow....

LOL

If those performances in SR were "WOW" worthy, then I wonder what Academy Award recognition performances are....

Thanks Socko...I need to add Indy to my list of fav movies!

I mean, if you're going to act like a film critic who only loves small independent character driven pieces and hate good blockbusters, at least stay consistent. I read a post someone made on this board not too long ago, and it said films and movies were created for enjoyment. I do like the smaller "Academy" films but I'm of the belief the medium was made for entertainment purposes, but many people will belittle the 'entertaining' pieces and only highly regard the 'informative' pieces. I prefer to go into a film for a visual marvel that handles everything into perspective. If not, then I might as well be reading a book or watching a normal documentary.

But of'course the 4,000 film student colleagues on the Hype will disagree in the masses.

yea my bad on the Mel Brooks/Monty Python...i loved Holy Grail...dont get me wrong...but top movies i disagree...

HP7 IS going to be ENORMOUS. its the final movie, to a great series, not to mention it was the final book to the most internationally acclaimed books series in history. Mark my words...2010...HP7 is going to be a fantastic, groundbreaking, movie event that everyone will want to see...harry potter fan or not...this will be the final showdown. nearly every movie, 1-5, has come close to a billion already... i wouldnt be surprised if HP6 made 900 mil, if not a billion...but HP7...to me...isnt a question of "will it break a billion", but more "how fast will it break a billion". this story is going to have not only children, but their parents, wanting to see how it ends.

ahh that last post got beside the point of this thread...but still....

^Oust them so we can beat them with orange filled socks...
