Wait... TEEN Avengers?

Apparently, it wont be based on Young Avengers. Its a Good News/Bad News situation. Bad news: It will probably suck. Good News: They wont **** over Young Avengers.

Time will only tell if they screw the pooch on this one. Here's to hoping that it doesn't look as idiotic as Teen Titans.

Maybe they'll just come to their senses & 86 it altogether.

It'd be cool if it didn't totally suck.

Not that that'll happen on anything.

I've heard about this DTV idea, which is still only in pre-production/planning stages.

Frankly, I'd rather an ULTIMATE AVENGERS 3 (and a better one than the sequal) than a TEEN AVENGERS. That just smacks of trying to ape some glory from TEEN TITANS.

The rumor I heard (around the Toonzone forums anyway) was this actually could be about the New Warriors, because supposedly once upon a time, they were almost called the "Teen Avengers", but that title was dropped because it sounded too much like Teen Titans (which it does, sorry). This could work out well if they do it right. I actually would like to see a mature take at a teen superhero team for a change, not the anime-tastic Titans.

It would be great if would be like the comic.

they should do an animated new excalibur..that'd be brilliant.

maybe its a PARODY of ultimate avengers

It's not based on any comic. This is teenage versions of the Avengers, not Young Avengers.

The irony here is that both UA films, love them or hate them, have sold very well and have proven their worth as a franchise. The proper focus would be on putting out a third. It seems foolish to try to "teenagerfy" it. But then again, Marvel's proven themselves capable of completely misreading their audience in the comics in the past, so it may be inevitable for them to bungle some DTV's.

Plus, this folly of "youthifying" established characters has been going on for a while, as shown in "X-Men: Evolution" & "The Batman". Bad ideas, both. But they got away with it. Only when studios are slapped upside the head for doing things like this will they learn.

To be fair, X-MEN EVOLUTION was actually a good show overall, albeit not a perfect one. The fact that it has been burried and it's release and reairings muted by multiple corporate hassles is frustrating (Marvel was frustrated at the "youth" compromises they had to make with WB to get it to air, and aren't interested in doing much with the property, and WB has to fork over royalties to competitor Marvel whenever they sell any DVD's of it or reair it, so those are kept to a minimum; fans had to wait maybe 2 years before getting Season 3 and maxing out the series is unlikely unless there is an X4). As for THE BATMAN, I'll admit it's a mediocre show at best but those hassles have almost nothing to do with the fact that it stars a "Year 3 Batman" (who is 26 years old). It's hassles come from shakey writing and some wonky designs.

However I do agree that "youthifying" franchises is not always wise and it's not the best direction for the DTV Avengers. I understand that they see the Avengers as the "launching pad" franchise for the DTV's, since Spider-Man, X-Men, and Fantastic Four are all owned by different companies, but I don't think a TEEN AVENGERS is best, even if it is simply New Warriors under a new name. But we'll have to wait and see.

The X-Men STARTED as teenagers in the comics. It's not as if the concept was pulled outta some TV exec's ass. There's precedent for the concept in the comics. It's regarded as part of their continuity for cryin' out loud.

The same with Batman. Year One clearly identified his age as being 25 when he returned to Gotham.

They can't be bad ideas if they have basis in the comics.

EDIT: AWW S***! i just read the article about Teen Avengers. Zak Penn's the screenwriter! Clearly, X3 and Elektra have taught Marvel nothing.

Cyclops, Jean, Iceman, Beast & Angel started out as teenagers. Nightcrawler did not. Their enemies did not. Beast was not their gym teacher. Mystique was not their principal. The whole approach was horrendous.
And The Batman is just unenjoyable, IMO. Even though he was relatively young when he started out, he never had the mentality shown in this series.

I never said it was spot-on, but there's basis for the concept of the X-Men as teengers. How they chose to re-interpret that concept is irrelevant, because, IMO, the writing made up for it. It handled the subject matter seriously enough, especially when humans became more aware of mutants. There was development in all of the characters as you saw them struggle to control their powers. Not to mention their build-up to introducing Apocalypse was damn near flawless. Much better than the 90s show, which treated him like a "villain of the week".

Well, I don't watch it, so I wouldn't know.

I stopped watching long before Apocalypse was brought in, so I can't speak on how he was handled. The overall handling of the caracters was, in my opinion, ill-conceived. I can handle re-interpreting something if I can enjoy the result, & in this case I couldn't.

You missed out, man!! They planted seeds for his storyline two whole seasons before he ever showed up! It was beautiful!

Really? The Beast travesty just put me off, so I left it alone after that. How'd he look? What was his origin?

Pretty much what we've seen in the comics, a powerful mutant from ancient egyptian times who wished to test mutants to see who were the most superior. His look was pretty similar to the comics, minus the stupid "A" belt buckle, thankfully.

And why was The Beast a travesty. If anything, they seemed to reference the comics heavily in how they chose to develop him; his intelligence, his articulate speech and love of Shakespeare, not to mention his transformation is pretty damn close to how it's portrayed in the comics; experimenting on himself to rid himself of his mutation, only to advance it in a more physical manifestation. Was it really THAT bad that he was a gym teacher? To say nothing of the fact that I think he doubled as the science teacher, as well, if I recall.

His gradually mutating into an uncontrollable monster was my problem. The gym teacher aspect was minor in comparison.
