Want a ps3 for christmas? It's still gonna cost you $600!!!!!!

Actually, the fact that it was 200 bucks cheaper than the PS3 right out of the gate alone made it a more worthwhile purchase since it's launch. :o

You get a lot for that money though. If you went and bought all the accessories for the 360 that come standard with the PS3 you're looking at like 800 bucks. (for system and accessories)

Xbox 360 Premium 400
HD-DVD add on 200
Play and charge kit 25
WiFi Adapter 125

So for 750, you get the 360 equivalent to the PS3, which is 550. But you also have to pay to play your games online multiplayer, and you get less hard drive space.

Prices in Canadian dollars since I can't be bothered to look up the US equivalents.

Also, this isn't knocking the 360, I own one and love it. It just would have been nice to be able to spend an extra $150 to get all the nifty accessories that the PS3 comes with instead of $350.

In the blu-ray thread, you claim that people buying PS3 only care about games. In this thread, you claim they only care about Blu-Ray movies. You can't have it both ways, make up your mind.

no I didn't

I said that the numbers are over-inflated depending on what sony wants them to say.

Some are for blu-ray. some are for games. Majority for games

But where are those games?

Notice I said this time next year. Right now sales are fine, but leveling out. Sony has great titles on the way. Give it time it's only been a year.

Yeah, but Christmas is where most sales are made and all the Sony's killer apps are coming out after Christmas. So during Christmas what are people going to pick a system that has killer apps now or a system where the killer apps are on the way? I'd rather get a system that I can play games on Christmas morning, rather than one where I'm gonna be waiting till the Spring for the killer app.

not only that but who the **** has a spare $400 after christmas?

Most people go in to hock in the run up to christmas and spend the first 2-3 months of the new year trying to get everything paid off.

These are the same people sony needs buying their console.

But they'll all be getting 360s or wii's instead. Which is only going to further increase the gap between systems. MEaning any exclusives will go to the two consoles with the biggest install base.

If ps3 doesn't close the gap soon it will simply be a port console. (and based on the current performance of ports on the ps3 that's the LAST thing sony wants.)

The real question is, why isn't PS3 being destroyed by Xbox 360 if Xbox 360 has a superior software library right now? The answer is in the red rings.

Did you even look at last month's console sales numbers, boyo? The 360 OUTSOLD the PS3 two to one IN SPITE of the PS3 price cut and your bloated RROD argument. That pretty much counts as the 360 destroying the s**t out of the PS3. :o

Yeah, only difference is you don't HAVE to buy all those extraneous accessories with the 360. Most people still don't give a damn about next generation formats. Likewise, the 360 doesn't require you to BUY a wi-fi adapter to go online. The 360, albeit more expensive after adding ALL the add-ons, is certainly gaining points for its scalability and being able to cater to different consumer classes. Whereas Sony pretty much forces the consumer to pay an extra 200 bucks for tacky extras they could've easily done without.

As a gaming system, it's pretty much a no-brainer that the 360 takes the cake as the better deal with its accessible price and superior gaming library. If you're an entertainment "enthusiast", then the PS3 could be the way to go, but then again, I don't give a damn about those people because they're a minor segment of the potential consumer base anyway.

ps3 fans use the ps2's sales as the reasoning for their belief ps3 will bounce back

a one year head start is what won the console war for sony last time

looks like it's microsoft's turn now :)

Maybe next time, son. By my estimation they have around four more months of being on top, and I'm being generous. All Microsoft is good for is second place in the video game market, I suppose. And you keep bringing up your sad excuse of a point that the 360 is selling better monthly. By your reasoning alone it's only cuz of the head start, and it got all those console exclusive games because it was the only nextgen system out. And actually putting the sales into context shows them selling equally. Even with all those sales you still can't shake off the Wii, the soon-to-be top NEXTGEN system.

PS2 is a good reason the PS3 will bounce back, it only expands their install base. That means a lot of later adopters

Yeah, I've been hearing that for a year now, and Halo 3 will make sure that is not the case. :o

no, not at all, Halo 3 will not effect sales in two years

How is selling better a sad excuse?!?! That's the whole point, to sell better on a monthly basis! Nothing is permanent in gaming, no one is just given the number one console on name alone, you have to earn it and Sony isn't earning it now, Microsoft and Nintendo are, why because they have games and are more affordable. Do you really think Sony's spring sales are going to make up the ground they lose over the Christmas season? Sony would have a chance if one of their killer apps came out before Christmas, but they won't. Meanwhile Microsoft and Nintendo will release the killer apps, system sellers for Christmas and the parents will buy those systems so their kid will have the hot new game to play as well. From Sept to Dec is the main period for video game sales, not Spring.

Yeah, it'll be Halo 4 or Gears of War 2 or Bioshock 2, you really think Halo 3 is gonna be Microsoft's last killer app, they'll keep making more. Sony will have them too, but they'll be too far behind the sales by that point. As a result, X-Box can throw a little extra money at third party developers to make exclusive games or the developers will just continue to release the games on X-Box first, then 6-12 months later release the game on PS3, which will sell more systems because everyone wants the games when they're new, not 6-12 months later.

In no way did I say that it's Xbox's last Killer APP, I merely stated that Halo 3 will not effect all the current PS2 owners from becoming later adapters of the Playstation 3

And in two years, this generation of console gaming will be having its last breaths and Microsoft will be preparing to unveil the successor to the 360. You bet Halo 3 will put a dent in the PS3's number for at least a year, especially if it has the kind of staying power of the first Halo. There is no other game with such massive marketing and publicity, so you bet it won't simply fade away from public conciousness after a few months. And in 2008, Microsoft has Alan Wake, Fable 2, Ninja Gaiden 2 and probably even Gears of War 2, so you bet the 360 will put up a tough fight.

It won't have to. By the time all these "later adopters" decide to actually want to buy into the next generation, MGS4 will have been announced for the 360, Mass Effect will be out and if its as good as it looks to be, its another GOTY quality type game that has tons of replay value and will probably be sold at a lower price in a year, there will probably be another Gears of War game, and like it was said before, Halo 3 will still be going strong.

aparently the 60gig starter pack is getting a price cut to 499 euros and the 40 gig will be 399 euros. two italian sites have put up preorders with that info.

Yeah, and Microsofts interpretation of earning it is putting out a faulty console so they have a chance of getting first, which they lost. And Uncharted, as well as Haze and Ratchet and Clank Future will be out before Christmas. Then next year PS3 owners will get MGS4, FFXIII and Versus, KZ2, Infamous, and many more games.

Microsoft has done a great job addressing the problem though, and of all the people I know that have a 360, I'm the only one who got the red lights. As for the games, Haze is multiplatform and games coming out next year don't really matter for the Christmas season, sure some people will buy a PS3 for the upcoming games, but I think more people will buy/ask for a system that already has great exclusive/first party games available. It's just like last year, Sony is asking people to pay $600 for potential.

I'm going to rent that after I beat Heavenly Sword, just for kicks. Mighty disappointment though
