About to start Ghost in The Shell from the very beginning, plan on going through all the movies and series in order. Going to start Trigun as well, tried watching Neon Genesis Evangelion and just couldn't get into it

I hear really good things about Samurai Champloo as well, how good would you guys say it is?

It's pretty good although I'd watch Cowboy Bebop before it if you haven't seen that one yet.

I love the hip hop theme the show has and it has some pretty comedic moments, the music is very well done and sets the tone for the series. Too bad they didn't make another season, if I remember correctly one of the people who had a hand in the show passed away, so they decided not to continue it, but its definitely worth watching

Nujabes, who produced various music for the show, including the opening theme, died.

Since no one has said it, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. One of the most charismatic animes ever, and an anime that actually makes you think with its themes of existentialism, time travel, and having the powers of a God. The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya tells the story of a girl who wishes for impossible things to happen and forms a club to seek out such things as aliens, time travelers, and ESPers. Little does she know, her persuasion of the impossible is also what keeps her life in check, otherwise the world could end over night.

The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya was also recently released after being in theaters. Fans consider it as one of the best stories from Haruhi (agreed!)

Berserk
A medieval tale of camaraderie, war, friendship, love, betrayal, and revenge. Berserk is a dark fantasy telling the tale of Guts, an orphaned swordsman who took up arms with the Band of the Hawk, and eventually seeks vengeance on its former leader and brother of arms after a (literally) Hellish ordeal.

Similar to Hellsing OVA and Fullmetal Alchemist, Berserk is being rereleased but in Japanese Cinemas and will follow the manga much closer.

I just finished watching Steins;Gate. Very good show. Deals a lot with time travel and stuff.

Gantz
A pair of high school students are hit by a subway train in an attempt to save a life. Following their deaths, they find themselves transported to the interior of an unfurnished apartment with a black sphere known as "Gantz" in the room. When the Gantz sphere opens, green text appears on its surface, informing those present that they must kill aliens that have taken residency in the local area. Those that survive are summoned every night and must gain 100 points in order to be finished, or to save the life of another who has died while under Gantz.

A live action movie of this has also just been released:

I need to re read the manga as I've missed so many chapters since I last read this series.

The manga artwork is still some of the best currently in the business. IMO

Simoun is a little-known (I think) show where everyone is born female and at the age of 17 they can choose their gender. Like a Top Gun Magical Girl (sort of) meets A Canticle for Leibowitz. Very cute.

I LOVE the manga for Berserk. Just got to Volume 13 or 14
Band of the Hawk is dying in the worst way possible. Almost baw'd.

Is there a series or OVAs that are like the 90s Tintin-series and Spirou? Like world traveling detectives that sovles mysteries and goes on adventures?

if you liked cowboy bebop and i know everyone does you will love samurai champloo. the music in the show really sets the mood nicely. it also has lots of levity so at times it is serious but not always. the filler episodes don't really fell like filler, just fun departures.

the action is really fast and the show doesn't over stay its welcome. some shows could drag on for far too long this one gets in, tells its story ,and it's done.
