I don't want to rage, I'm not angry, I'm not a troll, I'm not a nitpicker, I really really wanted to like Star Wars 7. I've seen all the films, I crash-watched 'Clone Wars', I have an SWTOR account. I am a huge fan.
I got to see it in IMAX 3D on the 17th and I wore my lightsaber to the premiere.
And yet... I found the movie disapointing. Most of the movie was a retread of plot points (a lot of plot points) from New Hope while the rest of the movie was cool ideas not being properly realized or outright waisted. On top of all this I found the movie runs out of a momentum when they arrive at that fortress that belongs to not-Yoda. I also found that all the practical effects were a blessing and curse; they were so good that the few CG that was used stood out a bit more.
Its not even that I hate the movie, It was nicely shot, it had a nice production design, I like the score, I liked the acting. It's just that it wasn't as amazing as I thought it was going to be. What I find depressing is that EVERYONE seems to think this movie wasn't just great but that it was amazing, everyone says it's better then the prequels and some are even saying it's better then 'Return of the Jedi'.
I'm used to disagreeing with people, I'm used to liking a movie a lot of other people don't like or not liking a movie that a lot of other people like. But there's something depressing about just how much positivie feedback this movie has been getting; It's probably going to make it to the IMDB top 250 and on the list of highest grossing films of all time.
Is there anyone else out there who didn't like the movie that much? Not even hated it, just didn't think it was all that awesome. I really need to talk to someone who feels like I do about this.
