At the end of Watchmen you see the title sequence for the old 60's TV show The Outer Limits. There was an episode called The Architects of Fear first broadcast on September 30th 1963. Here's the plot description from Wikipedia....

Although no specific era is indicated, the story takes place in a Cold War setting in which nuclear holocaust appears imminent. In hopes of staving off an apocalyptic military confrontation between nations, a group of scientists stage a fake invasion of Earth by an extraterrestrial power in an effort to unite all humanity against a perceived common enemy.

Sound familiar? I wonder if Snyder did it basically to show up Moore given the fact that his plot wasn't all that original?

Or perhaps it was an ode to a story with similar plots, while paying homage to the easter egg in the book...

I don't think it was to slap Moore down, It's Moore's story. I'm sure Snyder has nothing but respect for the man, even if he doesn't give a crap about his film.

Ironically enough, your user name is appropriate for the premise of this thread. Who cares?

I believe that was in the GN.

Speaking of easter eggs, anyone catch the 300 one in the beginning?

Yeah, Snyder totally wanted to *****-slap Moore off his high horse. Take that, you old wizard!

Come on.

It's in the novel. It's simply to show that they know where the storyline came from, and to draw a paralell to what happened.

i figured as well...

the big reveal at the end seemed all too familiar to me

Uh... Moore has admitted that the ending was pretty much ripped from that episode of the Outer Limits. It was a nod to that.

There ought to be a post requirement before noobs can start threads.
