Watch this and I DARE you not to cry.

Why would I cry? I didn't find is especially emotionally moving or anything, sick baby, happens all the time. Don't really give a ****.

On the other hand...
If someone was in a situation like I was, and had found out that their child had a terrible liver disease and he wouldn't live past the age of 2 and then had an abortion, they would have missed having such an amazing child.

My son was diagnosed with said disease and they told us there was no cure and he'd die before he turned 2. He is a perfectly healthy happy boy age 9 right now. He was miraculously healed from this disease and is living a healthy life :)

That's brilliant! I'm really happy for you! Seriously that's wonderful.

Your case is why these sorta things can't be taken lightly.

what one would consider a miracle is that the parents a) had the kid in the first place b) that they got to spend more time with him then they thought they would and c) that they were happy with what time they DID have, and not overrun with grief over what they would NOT have.

if you keep looking in the wrong direction, you will never find ANYthing.

I would consider A and B more of an example of the baby being unusually strong and having access to high-quality 24-hr medical care than a miracle. The world is full of babies who don't live in wealthy countries like the US who just die right off the bat from birth defects like that. Are those babies less deserving of a "miracle" than the baby of a comparatively well-off American Christian family?

Point C however, does relate directly to the parent's faith, and this is one reason why I do NOT support the notion that religious beliefs are all bad and do nothing but promote ignorance, as the current disciples of Dawkins and such often claim. If the parents' Christianity helped them deal with this trial and ultimate loss in a mature, positive and emotionally healthy way, then that's great.

First, I totally get what you're saying. However, the simple fact that the baby (and i'll use your words here) was "unusually strong" can be seen as a miracle, in its most simplest terms. Overall, its really what each person chooses to perceive it to be, neither verbage is wrong for that person, but usually, its a "miracle" for the one experiencing it, and "not" for those simply commenting on it. For example...

the shark attack victim who manages to get away might call their escape a "miracle", while the scientist who studies sharks will say, "no, you just punched it and it let go". who are we to say which person is right? Technically, they both are because 1)the scientist knows how sharks act and 2)the vicitm was the one looking death in the face, so they would be the most qualified to describe their attack and know if they "should have survived" or not.

You're right and that fact is sad. However, I believe it is wrong to look at miracles as something that someone deserves or does not deserve. Like some old, flamboyant wizard once said "many of those that deserve life die, and many that deserve death live" - or something like that. Life isn't fair, and to go around thinking "do you/they/I/we deserve that" is a life wasted. In a world where millions of babies die regardless of medical help, I think that EVERY child that manages to live for ANY amount of time can be considered a miracle in its own right. Its sad to say that, yes, but I try to be a glass is half full person.

I will say that it seems like a lot of people don't like to call things miracles any more because they have such a huge notion of a what a miracle is. They think of parting the red sea, or bringing someone back to life as a miracle, and only things that are comparative can also be given such a title. I believe that miracles are big. I believe that miracles are small. I believe the simple fact that my body in all its complexity is allowing me to type these words is a miracle. I believe that the fact we can consider our conversation a miracle of science; thanks to our God-given intelligence, we are able to talk without ever seeing one another or hearing the others voice. And I certainly think that a family getting to spend even 5 minutes with their deathly ill child a miracle, regardless of their location in a caste.

Point C however, does relate directly to the parent's faith, and this is one reason why I do NOT support the notion that religious beliefs are all bad and do nothing but promote ignorance, as the current disciples of Dawkins and such often claim. You and I agree fully on this. The benefits of (any) religion is very often times ignored for the sake of those wishing to bad mouth faith. Its good to see instances where a person's faith does good in their (and others) lives.

or accuse him of having a heart :o

I do have a heart, I just don't care about some sick kid I don't know at all or her parents. I don't go around feeling bad for every sob story in the world, there are millions of those.

that truly is awesome and amazing to hear! i'm really glad to hear it. :yay:

it must be a very difficult decision to make for most people though cause you just never know. i honestly wouldnt know until i was in the situation.

Did you know that you don't have to try so hard to be a dick? :whatever:

I don't see how abortion worked it's way into this but these parents let their baby die of naturally. I would hate to lose a kid but all you can do really is be grateful of the little time you did get to spend with them because in this world you could lose it all in a matter of seconds.

In case you missed it, the threads title was "Watch this and I DARE you not to cry" which it didn't. In fact I didn't care, should I play the bleeding heart to make you feel better?
