I can't believe I'm actually leaving my job. Those of you who know me know that I manage a mom and pop music store selling guitars and other instruments. I've been here a long time...something like 7 years. For the most part, I adore this job, but I had an offer come along that I simply couldn't refuse. I imagine the new job is gonna suck, but for the increase in money, there was NO WAY I could turn it down. I'll basically be making 1.5X what I make currently with far superior benefits. I'm nervous but at the same time really excited. Just thought I'd share with my fellow Hypers.

In May I'll have been here for 7 years.
It doesn't seem possible.
That'd be weird to be the New Guy again.

Well congrats mate

Did you really need the money? It's just that I know a few people who have downgraded their salary to get better job satisfaction :)

You should smash a couple of Guitars on your last day ala Pete Townsend style! :oldrazz:

The money is a pretty big deal. My wife and I would really like to look into buying a house in about a year or so, and this is really the only way it will be possible. If my wife and I can live somewhat comfortably, then I'll be happy. That's all I really want out of life, to be able to enjoy it with my wife, so I think this is a positive move for us.

He's married.

LOL! say no more.

That's reason enough. I wish you good luck :)

Well good luck on the move and my advice to you is take a short holiday between the two jobs.

Good luck with the new position. Sometimes a little change in our careers is a good thing, all additional money and benefits aside. What are you going to be doing in the new job, if I may ask?

Department Supervisor and of course you can ask fool. :p Very little is actually going to change from what I do now. It will simply be with a different company.

So, I get the feeling that another music store poached you away from the one you work at now with an offer for more money and better benefits? Was the place you currently work unable to match their offer in order to retain you? You may find you enjoy the new place a lot and discover that there are more opportunities for you to advance there as well, not just from a salary and benefits perspective but in terms of career growth opportunities. Yes, I'm encouraging you to take over the entire store within three years. :D

As someone who have had changed a few jobs over the last year or so, I wish you the best. Currently, I love my new job but I wish my salary would increase, however the benefits are great. I'm also hoping to be able to buy a new house with my wife, and that will hedge on whether I can get some pay raise in the next year or so.

I think the pay raise (and the 'far superior benefits') is definitely a plus seeing that you and your lovely wife wants to buy a house. This could certainly help you be on your way to get to that goal. Change isn't always easy but I think that maybe in time, the new job won't suck as much as you'd imagined. Good luck, Brad.

Actually, it isn't another music store at all. This will be it for me and the music business. When I said my job wouldn't change much, I really meant in theory. What I'll be dealing with will be a whole new ballgame. ;) The store I work at now couldn't come close to offering me the same money. This being a mom and pop store, it just isn't here. I'm talking a massive raise. It's pretty hard to say no to one and a half times your current salary. :D

The new place is a sex toy shop, isn't it?

I've got a friend that works there at least, so hopefully integration won't be too difficult. ;)

Good luck and I hope you will love your new job.

I didn't know you could make money selling guitars. Those dudes I see coming out of Guitar Center on their smoking breaks look like they just woke up and rolled out of bed.
