WGA, SAG-AFTRA Strike Thread

We can argue morals all we want but these people aren't people that have morals. They think on financial terms, and won't accept anything that doesn't make sense financially. Paying union dues out of their streaming revenue that isn't profitable yet doesn't make sense financially, therefore it's dead on arrival and a good chunk of the industry seems to know it.
Your actual argument is these studios are evil, so the workers should bow to them. :lmao:

As for the bold bit, that is factually incorrect.

Not bow down to them, but compromise, which is what the WGA had to do as well, specifically in regards to this issue. Every negotiation requires compromise.

Be that as it may, it happened, it's out there publicly and now that SAG spit on its face it'll be the AMPTP using it as leverage.
I completely disagree with you. It gives them zero leverage.

They will and have compromised on a lot (just, once again, look at the WGA) but SAG has to as well. This is how negotiations are supposed to work.
Except the studios haven't offered anything close to a good compromise and walked away from the table and have basically lied at every turn. The studios aren't negotiating in good faith just like they didn't with the WGA.

I have been on SM a lot today and the Deadline story has gotten very little traction fwiw.

Where they weakened when Amell was on his bull****? No. They aren't going to be weakened by a bribery attempt by a few big names. No matter how much the trades try to paint it as such.

Imagine carrying water as much for the automakers as people are doing for AMPTP.
Thank you!

It doesn't matter it hasn't gained traction in Twitter or whatever, it absolutely has made noise in Hollywood and that's more than enough.

And yeah they aren't negotiating in good faith which is all the more reason they're gonna pounce on this crack on "unity".

Labor rights NEVER "make sense financially." The 5-day work week didn't. The 8-hour day didn't. The minimum wage didn't. Unions exist for the express purpose of forcing the people with the money to do what doesn't "make sense financially."

I 100% guarantee you we are at the stage where whatever deal they come up with is one the actors would vote behind.
100%? 100? One hundred? You seriously think that it is an absolute certainty that whatever deal is placed in front of actors they will accept? No questions asked, they'll just do it. One hundred percent?

They are gonna be bringing this up in every meeting and it's a significant crack in their supposed unity. It absolutely gives them leverage.
So what? Membership didn't want the deal and the public is putting zero pressure on SAG to end this. Until that changes the studios have no leverage. That the studios are crying poor while spending like drunk sailors on holiday is getting more traction than Clooney selling out his union.

I am not sure you understand what leverage is. This isn't the NFL it's MLB the union doesn't crack cause the top end ask them to.

Everyone sees what that "deal" was in reality...a worthless bribe to take a bad deal. Deadline doing the heavy lifting for the studios again...

What public are you talking about? I'm seeing an increasing number of crew members commenting each day in regards to the strike they're desperate for it to just end already. I have a friend that's in the industry working as a crew member and he's told me he's tired and that it's a common sentiment to be blaming SAG at this moment for the ask they made.

And "membership didn't want it" lol membership hasn't voted on ****. Guarantee you they'd vote for a bonus system like the WGA got, everyone's already sick of this ****.
You cannot possibly make that guarantee.
With common sense I can, yes. If the A-listers that leave comfortably on their mansions want this to have already ended, what do you think the people that have done nothing but suffer this entire strike have to say? Hell, even on social media I'm seeing waaay less people rally behind SAG than they did for the WGA.

SAG-AFTRA’s Fran Drescher Responds to George Clooney-led Plan to Accelerate End to Actors’ Strike: It “Does Not Impact the Contract”

Later in the video, Drescher made a point of admonishing the studios for walking away from talks, saying that “walking away from the table actually is not only very naughty, but it also is not legal.”

Oh my god lmao. Really, Fran? Not legal? Then sue them and force them back on the table. All she and Duncan have been doing the past few weeks is complaining to the media about how unfair the studios were for leaving and begging them to come back as if that's going to accomplish anything. If they truly have a legal resource at their disposal they should use it, and if not they should extend a sign they're willing to compromise on the "tax per subscriber ask", anything to get these people back on the table as soon as possible. Instead all both of them have been doing is begging them to come back to the table in one sentence and complaining about them the other. And they may be justified in their complaints, but it ain't making them come back any sooner.

Hm, it's almost like this second post shows exactly the issues with the first one.

I wouldnt say stupid, but it was a bold Hail Mary to throw in at the 11th hour. I'm not saying they dont deserve it or some version of that ask but they had to have known the studio heads weren't going to go for it.

But the studio heads should not have straight up walked out. Present a counter offer of some sort at least and say "well get back to you."

In the 11th hour, WGA tried asking for a clause in case their members wanted to continue striking in solidarity with SAG-AFTRA without penalty, and the CEOs walked out of the room when it was asked. This is negotiations, and it's part of negotiations. Get back in the room and continue negotiating.
