We have seen a LOT of American films in different genres, that take place outside of the big cities.
Road movies show some parts of the big continent, while other films are completely set in the wilderness.

What state is most stunning one when it comes to mountains, forests, rivers, swamps, prairies, waterfalls or its location by the seaside (to give examples).
Note that this is only how the states have been shown in films! Not how them are in real life!

It's possible to vote for more than one.

If you can't find your favorite, it's set for part 2.

This is easy for me: Utah. A frequent location for classic westerns by directors like John Ford that have breathtakingly beautiful landscapes.John Ford's Point.jpg
EDIT: Apparently this shot is from Arizona as the park straddles the state line. So I'll vote for them jointly (although Utah isn't on the poll).

Thanks! Really beautiful pic there!!!

I did too. I actually do think this is an interesting topic.

My second choice on the list above is Hawaii. A source of many, many great looking films throughout the decades. It is the goto place for tropical locations on film, playing the role from Hawaii itself to the Caribbean to South America to Southeast Asia.

Thank you :)

You could have voted for Hawaii too, you know. It's possible to pick several states.

Perhaps people misunderstood the poll question? Either that, or they don't care about American countryside setting in films, only the story and the actors.

For me it's Montana

-'The Revanent'
-'Buster Mal's Heart'
-'A River Runs through it'
-'Yellowstone'

A quick search for films shot in different states

Texas - standard vote, really. It can hardly be more "American" than that. But could the same be said for every state?
Oregon - for Stand By Me
Vermont - for Cider House Rules
New York State - for Niagara Falls (if I HAVE to name a film, then Superman II)
Arizona (thanks to Kahran Ramsus for reminding me with that pic)

The last one also has Grand Canyon so I really must vote for it. It's been in several films.

I could have voted for all the choices, actually
