I would love to see Goro return of course as well as Jade and D’vorah. I wonder if they could do a crossover with a potential street fighter movie one day that would be awesome

I haven't seen the current one so that makes it more difficult to say, but (basically in order): Kitana, Kuai Liang, Jade, Cyrax, Sektor, (probably) more/better Reptile, (probably) more Sonya

Just looked up Ludi and apparently he is a proficient martial artist. Never would have guessed that from watching MK. Talk about bad direction.

Well you guys have all pretty much nailed it already on what they need to do if they do decide to make a MK 2. Definitely, get rid of the Cole Young character and hire a new director and writing team, because the script for MK 2021 was beyond terrible and please bring back Goro, Reptile and Mileena. I wouldn't mind it if they also brought back Kano and Kung Lao, but those first three are a much bigger priority IMO.

Also, those fight scenes need be improved big time and If I was in there shoes I would try my damndest to get some of the best stunt crews and action directors in Hollywood right now to help out in that area even if it might cost a pretty penny in the end, because this franchise desperately needs it.

Yeah, you watch a movie like The Raid, which literally had 1/55 of the budget of this film, and it has fight scenes that were amazing. There’s no excuse for MK having some of the most underwhelming fight choreography I’ve ever seen. This movie made Cobra Kai look impressive by comparison.

SPOILERS obv

Kung Lao to come back as a revenant and fight Liu Kang
Shang Tsung to actually fight someone
Raiden to be recast
Cole to take a backseat in the plot
Johnny to be charismatic, have a good fight, and flirt with Sonya
SubZero to become Noob Saibot and be independent of Shang's forces
Kitana to be introduced as an ally to earthrealm and interact with Liu
Goro to be altered by Shang's magic and resurrected to produce Kintaro and have him be the penultimate fight.

On another site someone suggested Ryan reynolds for Johnny Cage which would be fun

If they killed Cole off in the first minute like they did with Cage in Annihilation, no one would care.

Lol, I don’t even think the characters in the movie would care. I’d laugh my ass off if he died and then Johnny Cage just shrugged and said, “Oh, well. He sucked anyway.”

I have two major issues with the possible sequel:

1) Cole Young is trash. Killing him off on one had removes the elephant, on the other hand this move really makes it worthless to continue building this so-called universe, since he's by design the anchor of the story. No solution looks satisfying to me - I don't want them to kill him and I don't want to see him in the the future films.
2)
Kung Lao, Sub-Zero, Kano, Goro, Mileena, Kabal - some of the most iconic guys from MK are dead before the tournament. I'm suspecting they plan to bring at least some of them back via magic, but this is another problem...It cheapens the idea of deadly fights. If everyone can be brought back afterwards - it makes it feel really weightless for me.

The more I think about MK21, the more it feels like utter failure to me. And I don't know a good way out for it. These decisions feel like Last Jedi and Batman v Superman - no matter what you do next, it will suck ass.

They basically had the fights without the tournament. So doing a tournament seems redundant now.

Yeah. That’s why I’m 50/50 on whether I want this movie to bomb so that we don’t get more of this crap. On the other hand I’m an MK fan so I would like to see someone (with actual talent) try to make a new film. But if this movie is deemed a success, then WB will probably greenlight a sequel and keep the same two idiots who made this mess.

Not familiar with MK Lore? Death Doesn't matter in Mortal Kombat. Never has.

I'd like to to see the tournament proper. Cole's role reduced to talent scout. Keanu Reeves in the director's chair and Charlie Cox as Johnny Cage

@Deck Rickard: If a sequel gets made, and you could pick any director to direct who would you pick?

Gareth Evans would be high on my list. He’s proven that he can do high octane martial arts (the Raid series) as well as fantasy/horror (Apostle) on a low or modest budget.

But I think Jonathan Tropper would be my top choice; he’s the creator and showrunner for Warrior, which not only has amazing martial arts sequences but has fantastic production value. Most importantly, the series has a big cast full of GREAT characters. There isn’t a weak link in the group. That takes a lot of talent.

Tropper might be a real possibility too; Warrior is on HBO Max and Justin Lin is one of the producers. And of course Joe Taslim is one of the stars on the show. I would be ecstatic if WB announced that they were dumping McQuoid and Russo and giving it over to Tropper. But only after he finishes season 3 of Warrior.
