What do you want to see if they make Mortal Kombat 2?

Sucess or no sucess they can't possibly bring back this same creative team every movie reviewer I trust has pointed out the uselessness of Cole and the non existentant acting skill of Tan.

I didn't hate the 2021 film as much as some of your guys, but I admit there's room for improvement, and whilst I get why, there's a couple of characters that I wish they hadn't killed off so soon.

Kitana & Nightwolf were indirectly referenced, so if there's a sequel (and I truly believe there will be) then these two need to be in it. Johnny Cage is going to be an obvious addition too.

Otherwise I'd like to see Kensi, Sheeva, Jade, Rain, and the younger Sun Zero among others. There's a lot of story to tell though so a sequel would either need to be longer or it would have to lead into a guaranteed third film.

I could do without Cole, but he's involved now; there's no point killing him off just to please haters. Might as well build on his character.

I figure some characters (like Stryker) are already dead, as per the way we got Kabal, although Stryker isn't exactly a character we all want to see anyway.

I think they could kill off Cole and just “honor” him by having the others talk about how he was the one who was prophesied to bring everyone together. He did that, so now his useless ass can die a painful death lol.

But if they do keep him around, then do something interesting with him. Make him the new Scorpion and put him in a costume that more closely resembles the game version (less armor so he can move around). He’s got the biceps for that. Or just give us some reason to care about his character other than the obligatory family who are just as vapid and boring as him. Hell, Hanzo’s family had more personality and they lasted all of two minutes in the movie.

You don’t have to kill Cole, but just place much less importance on him, and give the main character role to Johnny Cage in the sequel.

Yeah, even if Cole remains, he needs to take a backseat. You can even make it more of a shared experience where multiple characters are the lead. But don’t center the whole movie on this nothing character.

Why is everyone turning on MK21? Are rewatches exposing real problems with the script and direction? I’ve seen lots of glowing reviews so I’m a bit surprised about how negative this thread is.

Who is turning on it? I watched it once and I’ll never sit through it again because it was awful. My opinion hasn’t changed. I don’t believe I’ve seen anyone else praise the film and then a few days later say, “Welllll actually it kinda sucked,” though maybe I missed something.

Also, it’s at 55% on RT, so while some of the reviews might be glowing, that’s not exactly universal acclaim from critics. Obviously it means there are more good reviews than bad ones but it’s still “Rotten.”

God, this franchise would be so lucky to have Reynolds as Cage.

Yeah but he’s a big name Star who would be perfect for the role. He could even get a bit meta and make a joke that Johnny cage played deadpool or someone similar in the mortal kombat universe

It's gotta be Green Lantern. If not GL, it's gotta be Booster Gold.

I'm quite skeptical towards that Reynolds would be able to get good enough at martial arts to be in an MA focused film. Actors that can't fight well has been a problem with MK films since the original.

Cage is, in my view, the most entertaining character in MK by far so it would be great with a talented comedic actor like Ryan but he should still be a great fighter. I'd much rather see Cage as the main protagonist than a joke character. That would bring much more charisma to an MK film than focusing on the characters that are too serious.

I mean, Reynolds has done a lot of action movies and has look believable enough. Granted, they haven’t been martial arts films but I think he would be fine as long as they hire a better fight choreographer and a director who actually knows how to film martial arts battles. Obviously Johnny needs to be a believable fighter but he more important thing is that he’s charismatic, funny and looks like a movie star. Reynolds ticks all those boxes.

Because I enjoyed Kung Lao a lot, would love to see him brought back as a revenant. This is assuming we even got to Outworld or saw Quan Chi, because I assume they'd have to do Shao Kahn first.

Yes, I did already acknowledge Reynolds having the other aspects but I just want to see some high level martial arts in a MK film and it's extremely hard to pick that up in a short time so you look experienced. The guys in the Matrix got a lot of time to practice and I think they did a good job learning, but they still didn't look like they were fully comfortable with the moves. Sure, I might have a more critical eye than most as I've competed in martial arts at a decently high level but I also feel that I'm not overly critical in my mindset. I would just like to see an MK film that features actors that can bring something closer to what proper martial arts films produce in terms of fighting.

But sure, if they manage to teach him a good deal and come up with ways to be able to use stuntmen as often as possible it could work. He'd certainly bring a lot more credibility to an MK project and maybe his presence would shape up some other aspects.

As great an actor as Reynolds is, I'd rather he take a hard pass on Cage. Instead, get The Miz (from WWE) in the role. He's perfect for it!

If they were younger, either Donnie Yen and/or Jet Li would've been awesome for MK2. Unfortunately can't think of anyone like them who is younger aside from the handful of martial artist actors we already got in MK '21. The fight choreography needs to be vastly improved for a sequel because it was less than stellar.

Character-wise I demand a proper Reptile for the sequel, and a Reptile vs Scorpion vs Sub-Zero fight.

Ryan Reynolds wouldn't be a terrible Johnny Cage but IMO he's getting a bit too old to be believable for the type of role. He needs to either play Green Lantern (Guy Gardner) or Booster Gold as previously mentioned.

They need to cast Andrew Koji in a sequel either as Sub-Zero 2 or just dump Ludi Lin and cast him as Liu Kang. He’s got the skills and the acting chops. They should also find roles for Iko Uwais and Julie Estelle, maybe as Smoke and Kitana.
