It was recently revealed that back in 2016 then Disney CEO Bob Iger attempted to buy Time Warners and it’s assets, but it was too late - Time Warner was already in talks with AT&T. In a hypothetical alternate timeline where Iger contacted Time Warners before AT&T, and ultimately bought their assets, which would include DC, - aside from the long-dreamt about Marvel & DC crossover movie being much more likely to happen, how do you think Disney would handle DC? Do you think they would handle it worse or better than AT&T has? Do you think they would get Feige to run both DC and Marvel, or do you think they’ll get someone else to run DC? I’m curious to know your thoughts on this.

If Disney bought WB/DC, we’d have live action Batman movies in the vein of Lego Batman.

No please.
Its good for more competition and more diverse movies. Im very happy with Marvel being a part of Disney, but DC shoud go a different way.

The way Disney gutted 20th Century Fox after the acquisition made me sick. 20th Century and Searchlight are basically glorified labels for Disney fare that don’t fit the Mouse House brand.

Seeing Disney do that to Warners would be even worse. The novelty of DC/Marvel crossover films would wear off quickly. Although having Feige run Marvel and DC would be awesome.

I’d actually be really interested in seeing Marvel tackle Batman. I don’t know if it’d be good (or, more accurately, to my taste) but Marvel’s Batman would have my money in an instant.

(For whatever it’s worth, I don’t doubt they’d do wonderful things with Superman.)

I wouldn’t mind a Marvel Studios production of a Batman film, as long as the directors get creative control and not required to add post credit scenes.

I don't mind post-credit scenes. I'd rather they were just released online as shorts or teases to give the audience an idea of what's coming next but whatever.

I wouldn't mind a somewhat lighter Batman film. I haven't read a ton of comics from that era (if any) but I've become obsessed with descriptions of Bronze Age Batman. Not overly comedic or not overly serious, a Batman who wasn't a perpetually unhappy *******, pulpy adventures that felt like swashbuckling action films...if anyone would make that kind of Batman, it'd be Marvel. I love my darker takes but Batman could use a break from being so serious all the time.

20th Century hasn't fared so well, but Disney didn't have a low budget prestige label so Searchlight has been a great fit with the Mouse. FX Networks, HULU, STAR India, Star Wars & Marvel rights all fit in snugly within the Disney empire as well.

Warners would have been a much more challenging merger with the overlap in superheroes, classic animation, children's programming and sports networks. It probably worked out for the best that the companies didn't join forces.

I would love to see a Marvel and DC crossover film like Superman/ Captain America for example.

Other than that, I really don't know much about the Fox /Disney thing and I'm no expert in mergers.

I don't know how DC based films would have been handled or who would be be in charge with Disney at the top of the pyramid , but it would have been interesting a see a series of crossover , team up films.

Marvel’s Batman.

I’m sorry but that just sounds all kinds of wrong.

Ironically, Stan Lee re-imagined the Batman character years ago .

If they did we wouldnt have:

Harley Quinn animated series

No remastered versions of anything

Probably no Rated R SS

They may have put more effort into getting the DCEU as a whole together though.

Would it have even been legal for them to own WB and DC characters? The whole monopoly of it all.

I think that alone would've killed any potential Disney/WB merger, the overlapping entertainment divisions. Just clearing any DOJ mandates by excluding certain channels (like The CW) or selling off channels to satisfy the terms of the acquisition.

Hell, getting two major studios like Disney and WB to agree on financial terms for a DC/Marvel teamup would be easier than the agreement for a Disney/WB marriage.

I tend to agree, and this is why I love Bronze Age Batman stories the best.

am I the only one who thinks Disney would've been a better brand partner for DC than it is with Marvel? Especially going by the iconic classic comics?

While I can see them doing good with Superman, Green Lantern and Flash, they would crush everything Batman related very hard.

Eh, if by 'crush' you mean "They might actually recognize that Batman has other tones and styles besides DARKNESS NO PARENTS", then yeah, Disney would *definitely* crush it. Why couldn't Disney by DC, it would have been awesome.

*ahem*

If Kevin Feige got his hands on DC material, we'd all have less to complain about. We know he understands the characters.

Disney shouldn't be a monopoly of comics. Owning the top 2 comics and characters ist just way to messy.
