Am I missing something?

He's loud and quotes random things for laughs. I'll give him Old School because that has some memorable scenes in it imo. The Legend of Ron Burgundy was good also, but Steve Carell stole most of the scenes he was in, and I kind of wished that Vince Vaughn was starring in that film w/ Ferell as the arch-nemesis from the other news station.

Still, Ferell's best role was probably the cameo in Wedding Crashers.

Your thoughts? Set me straight, agree, highlight some vintage Ferell.

Explain the enigma that is his mass appeal.

The look in his eyes, his timing, his absurdity.

I don't know, I found his appearance on Larry King in character pretty funny. Other than that... Meh. I'll take George Meyer over him any day.

Well you, yourself just named 3 movies that you thought he was good in. He's funny because of how absurd he is but more importantly how much he commits to it. Its all in his delivery and expression, and he gets this kind of crazed look about him at times where you just laugh at the fact that a grown man is acting like a child and doing it with such conviction.... thats why I think he's funny.

Recommendation:

Watch old SNL shows with Will on it. He's at his absolute best and funny. My favorite skits included Inside the Actors Studio and Robert Goulet impersonations.

Ok. That's understandable.

Yeah, I can also name three really bad ones:

Kicking and Screaming
Bewitched
Zoolander (technically doesn't count since he wasn't the lead)
Elf <this one isn't bad persay; it's just. . . predictable>

True. But if that's the case, you must break down from the laughter of a Keanu Reeves dramatic role.

Alright. Vintage Ferrell. I'll have to view some of these skits.

Also watch his Harry Carey skits, I forgot to mention those.

On SNL one of the great things about him was that he was able to make a skit that should have been horribly unfunny and make it hilarious. Like the one where he played a doctor and he's supposed to deliver bad news to a couple who's baby he delivered. :p

His impressions were great but in film, he's the same character and it gets old.

Hey!...Hey!...If you were a hot dog, would you eat yourself?
I know I would.
LOL!
Jeopardy is also great.
His interaction with "Sean Connery" is just classic.

I'm not a fan of Will Ferell, or half of the guys that are the current popular comedians and comedic actors for that matter.

It hasn't hurt Adam Sandler's career...
Sandler can play sweet and caring. Not just party guy. Check out Big Daddy for instance.

Will can play more than just the party guy. Check out Melinda & Melinda and also Winter's Passing.

One of his better roles would have to be Franz Liebkind in the 2005 remake/rehash/broadway musicial version of The Producers. It's already one of my favourite movies to begin with, but he definately did a better job of the character than the gent in the original movie [Classic Franz came off as a Psycho, whereas Current Franz just comes off as out of touch].

Also, it has Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick. Where can you go wrong?

Ferrels funny on SNL... on film.. i doubt it. Hes good for more quick sketches than a drawn out movie, most of them are.

I thought both Ferrel and Sandler were much funnier on SNL than they are in movies. They showed range and variety back then. Now it´s all about playing the same character again and again. And God knows why, it works at the BO.

Except he played Party guy for like 90% of that movie.
