Aloha,
You know I don't remember too much talk about it but the one shot-Black and Blue and Red all over-attempted to set up the scenario where Aunt May and MJ encouraged Peter to do something that would bring him the credit they felt he was due.I know the revealing of his identity was a great mistake but Peter has held onto it for so long, sometimes you need a good reminder WHY it was so important. This is one dumb move that Peter is going to have to live with for many moons according to Marvel.
Spidey rules
I have to say, I agree with you
While I do HATE the idea of the unmasking, the whole point of the MU is the fact that Stan Lee tried to make a super hero universe that's as realistic as possible... Especially when it comes to the feelings/emotions of the characters.
At the end of the day, Spider-Man is the hero that is most like us, and at some point, if it were set up, and the chance was given, all of us would have an urge to go for it. Especially if our loved ones were encouraging us to do so. Basically, it would happen at some point.
I always said, not only is it very out of character for Spidey to be an Avenger, but I always said that something like this would happen, and it has.
Oh well, to be honest, we all know that there's no way he can stay unmasked forever. And Marvel have shown with DD that, even though with great pain and torment, and after a very long time, a hero can have a secret ID again. I really like the DD storyline, and I can only hope that Spidey gets the same treatment. Otherwise it's bye bye Spier-Man for a HELL of a lot of people
